Hi Friends,

I joined this great site on the 3rd Feb 07, the first picture I saw that of Fred with his big cobia. The very next day I got my self a tele rod & a small reel with 10 Lb line, two rapala F7 red head and one mepps 3 spinner. the following weekend I and my cousin Rajesh went to harihareswar, trust me, not knowing how to cast I was taking the line out from the reel & throwing the lure with my hand. No fish & I lost one lure to the rock. It was only when I met Yaj that he showed me how to cast on our trip to Kundalika and I got my first fish on the meeps spinner.

It's been just under three years that I have learned & enjoyed the sport. Caught almost everything that swims in our waters and fished all along the west coast. From Mrigal to Mahaseer & barra to barracuda. The only two fish that remained were cobia & ravas.

I also made great friends, Fred, Ali, Vishal, Rajat, Abhi, Neil, And my darlling Tato. :)

Last weekend I and shefali decided to go out to one of my favourite place that is close to ratnagiri.

We did surf fishing, trolling, light tackle spinning (4 to 10 lb rod & 10 lb line) and caught some 20/25 small jacks, learned to throw a cast net, caught mullets on float & some crabbing. This one was one of the best I did and caught plenty of fish, including my first cobia (small but very special). I also lost couple of very nice fish after a good fight. Dont know what it was, a clean bite on 50 lb leader.

I have some nice pics that I'll upload later.

On our way back, I saw the most tragic thing I have ever seen, it has changed the way I look at life.

Regards,

Santosh

I too was going you congratulate you on the Cobia but it might ring a little hollow in light of the most tragic thing you have ever seen.

Great Pictures Santosh! Thanks for Sharing with us.

Please share with us what Tragic Thing you saw, that made you so philosophical. Is it something similar to what Prince Ashok observed when he went out of his Palace and on street saw the suffering poor souls, which subsequently made him leave the Palace and he became Lord Buddha?

Your report touched me really.

Best Regards,

Arun

Thanks Guys..

Appo, the rod I am using is a Fenwick Eagle GT 7 ft 4 to 10 LB rod, I paired that with small abu reel with 10 lb braid & 20 lb fluoro leader... amazing rod, I absolutely love it & catching small jacks was simply superb.

Ken, as for as I know there are no crocs in this creek.

Henry dada, all fish apart from the grouper (that went to the boat guy) & the cobia were released.

Mr. Arun, nice words but..  I am not leaving my home.. :-)

1.4 L ppl die in india every year in road accidents.. I am fortunate to be alive to write this had it not been Shefali sitting besides me or call it my misfortune, that I saw one and the ones who will suffer were at no fault.

Santosh

Hi Santo,

Amazing fish caught and very nice report. I wont ask you what did you see on your way back cause we've seen some of it on our last trip. The cobia is a beauty. Now what remains in your list is a ravas, and kingfish if I am not mistaken. Lets hope you complete the list as early as possible. Next time be prepared for what you lost this trip.

Spoonangler.

Hey Santosh!

Good catch mate. And about the tragedy, I know and can never forget this place called sangameshwar where I experienced a deadly one where there were 2 tempo trax carrying newly wedded and the second was trying to catch up with the one ahead lost control and no one was alive including the couple. The ones ahead did not even realize this. The least I could tell you is my example I missed by a couple of inches, my vehicle was ripped apart right from the right hand side rear view mirror and the engine, but GOD BLESS me I am alive to narrate this. Duh.. make sure everyone is buckled up when you drive and strictly no drink and drive.

Cheers - DeZZ
