Hi

I have used Jigging as a method to catch fish but only in the Sea, I have done it in England, California and in Andamans and have caught a lot of fish with it.

I have nevery tried it in a lake or a river, I do have a Jig Float and Bell sinkers but never tried maybe I will try this weekend in Galibore, will give you a report.

Did try it once at Bhakra in the winter. But had no luck. I think having a fish finder would have increased my chances as the lake is very big.

With the lack of good fishing boats in India, you would be hard pressed to find anglers that jig on a regular basis. Trolling and spinning are the techniques that we favour here.

Electronic or biological! a fish finder is a fish finder.

Gosh!

I talking about jigging in the sea, not in a lake?

But that's all right, we can try the same formula in the lake as well and see what are the results??

Cheers

Hi Jeen,

I just received two accurate, 870N and 665XN and a daiwa reel, and near completion two slow tapered PE5 customed build for the accurates and Daiwa Kix 4000 spinning. A medium outfit for vertical jigging up to 250g

Upon completion of both rods, I would like to bring it out for field testing. I have also ordered CTS jigging blanks as well, they should arrive from NZ by next month and will start work on that to get it completed quickly for a field trial all together. The next mission is to find the fish.

I noted vertical jigging is not popular around Dubai or Abu Dhabi. You may like to point me out over this area. Is there any good sunken wrecks to start with around Dubai or Abu Dhabi? but I guess this is pretty new here and equipment is kind of a shortfall as they are not available in tackle shops here, that could be the lack of popularity here.

I did seen some good size GT in musandam landed and released with poppers. The same spots if given the opportunity to jig would be more interesting as the fish maybe anything between bottom to the top. This will certainly give you the run all the way.

As the summer kicks in, is it any good to go off shore fishing, the fishes migrate into cooler water. This will mean further distance from the shore. Please enlighten, as I have not tried summer fishing in UAE.

Cheers

Hi Bloke,

Good to see some serious juice on the site. Well I got into popping and jigging only since the last couple of years. I still jig with my Gt gear the Stella 10000 & carpenter rod or sometimes a smaller Daiwa Saltiga Z 4500 wich has a slightly lower gear ratio than the stella, when I get tired of popping the Big poppers.
Iam still toying with the idea of a Ocea jigger or a Saltiga Jigging reel . The Accurate twin spin looks good too. As for the fishing off Abu Dhabi where I am , we have a couple of Wrecks some 40 to 50 miles out . The depth is under 20 meters this means the fish are further out closerto the Iranian waters in Summer also the heat is so bad with near 100% humidity we never dare to take the boat out. My boats fuel tank capacity is only 110 Gallons ( mistake when I got it Made). Iam in the process of fixing an additional tank and changing the outboards to 4 stroke to increase our range.

So hold on, the new season is going to be very exciting trust me.

The species we get in Abu Dabi jigging are Cobias, Tevallies, Golden & orange spotted, Barracudas, Snappers , Groupers and stuff. You mentioned N. Zeland - Three king Islands any time?

Any way will talk more on tackle later

Jeen,

Hi Jeen,

Nice to see another crazy jigger round the corner, about 175km apart.

There is some good spot at Musamdam for big GTs, no need for Three Kings, NZ. Got some mates who went there with ChrisW and have hell of a trip. They captured some of their moments and cut into into a commercial CD, a copy is with me. Could sent you a copy if you can PM me your PO Box.

You should seriously consider Ocea jigger or a Torium for vertical jigging. I have two accurates with me, and is dying to get it run-in soon, after I complete the whole outfit. I am trying to land my hand on the latest Progear also....which is alot cheaper with similiar performance with accurates, I was told.

20-30m is a little shallow for vertical jigging in flat current, also depending on the current flow, with stronger currents, bigger jigs tend to find the way down faster, but the retrival may seem a little too short. Further to that, I was told that there is some vertical run-off some 10-15km off from Dubai or Abu Dhabi, which may be excellent jigging spots, got to explore the conditions. BTW if you are aware of such terrain, do let me know.
I will try to get a motion smith chart to confirm these locations

Cheers

Hi Jeen,

It should be on way to you!

My rod is ready and will try out by end of this month.
Hope the fish in the Gulf is just as exciting.

Mighty Marlin,

The Andaman Seas exact, which part are you normally jigging from.

Doggies, wahoo, snapper, rusty jobfish and a mother of a potato cod are superb specie for vertical jigging. I have a group of friends whom are hard cores are looking for the unstoppable. If your locations do present these large fish, I would appreciate you drop me some photos and contacts for them to get in touch with. I might pop in to join them if they are willing to give a try.

Cheers

Jeen,

Nice to hear you enjoyed the DVD!

If you happen to have a chance to go for GTs at Musandam, do let me know in advance. I like to join in as I have contacted Nick and was told that they are unlike the party boat as in California. You have to form your group to get going...

Anyway keep the post coming...it is now summer and I be going for a boat trip from Sharjah this Sat and see how the fishing is like in Summer Heat.

Cheers

Hi All,

Went jigging today off Sharjah and Ajman coast, about 25km off.

Water depth on average 35 to 40m....Actually it is quite hard to jig, with the high speed reel, the jig came back up in less than 25 turns. I reckon for 120g jigging should be done about 50m to 75m or slightly more. Should go for smaller jigs due to shallow depth.

It is just too shallow and need to find some deep spots tyres or wreak reef. Plenty of Cudas, bottom fishing yield good results but most got snatch by the Cudas.

Thanks MM

That's a nice doggy! Got a series of new JM powerspell coming to Dubai.
That's for eliminating the back breaking job of jigging. Focus shifted to OMAN now.

Another very interesting jig....pro-jig! Some are available here.
Good hits with travelly family.

Cheers

TB
