I was supposed to be there for the whole week, but my vacation got cancelled due to work
However managed to just spend the weekend there....
Went to one of my favourite fishing stretch on the west coast. Now that it was off season for the tourists, my friend who runs a restaurant was free to tag along with me while I was fishing. Since I had a borrowed camera, I managed to take a few pics of the terrain and the fish. Will try to get more the next time I'm there smile.gif
There are some spots with deep water along the cliff, but I am not comfortable finding fish in deep water, as I prefer shallow water with rocks/cuts/rips/wash to find the fish smile.gif Hence stuck to shallow water (may be waist deep) with rocky reef on the bottom. Didn't carry much gear as I was taking an overnight bus to that place only for the weekend. So, I fished my Shakespeare BWCA/O 2201 70 Ugly Stik Tiger casting rod that I left in my friend's place. I carried a couple of reels with me, but just fished my Penn Squidder 140L. The reel is upgraded with Tiburon frame and a Penn power handle. I also have SS gear sleeve/Carbontex washers/SS flat lapped metal drag washers from smoothies that I am yet to install wink.gif I'm in love with this reel.... Smooth and free spools like feather and also looks awesome.... Was able to cast light plastic swimmers down to up to 1 oz without issues with this setup.
Conditions were not that good.... Windy with choppy water and big waves as the monsoon is approaching. However, I fished Saturday evening and Sunday evening and managed 2 Mangrove Jacks (One on each session).
First one was 4.7 pounds and the second one was 6.2 pounds. What a fight they gave.... took some drag with locked down drag from my Squidder icon24.gif
Can't wait to get back there for an entire week in May, though I am not having my hopes up due to approaching south west monsoon. Here are a few pics from my borrowed camera for some that might be interested. Took an 8 minute video of me just casting, with no fish frown.gif Will try to upload the video later, hoping to get people here to start fishing conventional gear even for casting light plastic lures as it is a lot fun.
Pic of the same fish with my friend.
This is not the lure I caught the fish with, but a productive lure. Tilsan Big Barra from Halco.
A deep diver with a missing lip, due to all the abuse from the rocky reefs where I was fishing :)
