Hello sarath!

Had a look around Kannur and fished two places.

Aprox. 15 km North of Kannur the NH 17 crosses a river.
Tried fishing at the jetty next to the bridge. Didn't catch big things but this place looking very promising, many many baitfish there and very deep water.

Where this river meets the See is a long Dam along the Rivermouth out in the Ocean, catched also no fish there but again very promising spot. Lots of Mullets there and many Dolphins.

Try your luck!

tight lines

Cheers

Hello Prabin,

I will most likely be in Kannur (Etakkad) on the 16th. If you are okay, may I join you? :)

Hi Rajesh,

Are you planning to fish in Kannur or would you like to scout some places in Vadakara?

After Tellicherry, while proceeding towards Vadakara there is a spot. This place has a rough road going into the sea but not very far. One will also find boats nearby. On the main road there is a hindu flag hoisted on a pole and that is the landmark sort of, to this place.
I have been fishing only once. So don't know many spots. There is also the spot at Dharmadom or Muzhapilangad with rocks strewn around the sea shore.

Hi,
There are many small places in and around Kannur & Talassery of promise.
The most promising of them is
1. Place referred by Markus 14 Kms north of kannur NH-17, you would reach Valapattanam river & below on the right side there is a jetty where you could try. Locals are landing MJ’s & Groupers by hand lining on sardines.
2. 5 kms from Kannur town you would reach this place called ALAVIL, further up you touch AZHIKKOD & further 4 kms you reach AZHIKKAL the estuary with a very wide sea mouth , and the rocks strewn for the breakwater runs to nearly 2 kms. You would have the entire stretch to yourself with very friendly hand liner with sardines & chicken intestines.
I had very limited time on that day and landed this grouper on a HALCO REDHEAD sorcerer.

Hi just reading all the write ups around Kannur.
At TELLICHERRY there is a pier into the
Sea about 100 meters long. One can catch along with local hand fishermen. Have been a few times only got catfish. At Mahe there is a new stone wall that protrudes into the sea. Got one 500 gram Groper. But I am not the best. Locals very helpful. Always laughing at my rods and gear. Anyway anyone wants to make a fishing trip post a date that area is beautiful in December and Jan. Live in Bangalore. Willing to drive down with a little notice.

Nice fish those....:)

The Eranholi bridge offers some good fishing....Brackish though!

I was there last December ...caught a few fish on line

Lutjanus argentimaculatus (this was taken for the pot by a fisherman who took us to the spot and caught it )

Allenbatrachus grunniens (Currently swimming in one of my tank)

a 3'+ Anguilla sp ...which was released back

Will try to get some pics from that trip

Checked out all the above posts before I went home in Dec 11 for a week. Regularly went in the early morning (starting from sunrise) and fished from the Valapattanam Bridge. First day on sardine head was a waste. The next few tasted success with catfish, going with live/semi-live white/red prawns (available in Puthiyatheru market for about Rs 20. This is the last crowded 3-road junction before hitting the wide highway, as you leave Kannur city).
The locals catch a lot of catfish from the bridge using multiple hand-lines (tied to the bridge sides at multiple places!). Place yourself right above one of the supporting pillars of the bridge and let the bait (prawns/ chicken pieces/ intestines) hang down about 10 ft below surface, that works for catfish.
Couldn't make it to Azhikkal or the Kannur Beach North end. Next time around this Dec!!:)
