i had hit the port area last night and this morning. both visits were highly productive, i got the largest mj of my life (till now) in the evening hrs on a halco poltergeist. the fight was even more intense as it was dark and the fish kept on struggling till the very end.

u can see my homemade landing net.

this morning i went to a slightly different spot and drowned the poltergeist. on my third casting location i had a strike. the hit was hard but unlike that of a mj. this guy kept the tempo up as opposed to mj's which give a sudden tussle and then trail off. also i noticed the fish surfacing which rarely happens so soon in the fight with a mj. the color of the fish told me that it was a barra. the acrobatics which followed were great. several head shakes and slight attempt at tail walking. the fish also made a few runs on the surface.

the season is supposed to kick into high gear in December by that time i hope to get my heavy tackle ready and try to tackle a real big un.

just lost a lure to something big. it gave a few hard tugs and snapped the line. tied on another poltergeist and got another barra. landing the fish in the dark made me think about getting a head lamp. and a telescopic gaff.
pics later tonight.
what makes this trip more memorable is that i was there with my entire family and (my bad luck charm) my younger brother who are now hooked on angling.

thanks and hats off to all IA guys. it was your posts which motivated me to try and learn angling. most of you have been great mentors and help from time to time. now to break the 3 kg mark.

a4f,
the lure used was a halco poltergeist in red tiger color 80 mm, leader 5 lb yozuri floro leader of around 3 ft, mainline tufline xp braid 20 lb, penn silverado 4000 reel, wildcat rod 8 ft. water colour varied from murky to clear. best time for bites appear to be twilight.

Doc,

Are you saying you used a 5 lb leader couple with 20 lb tufline?? Or is it 50 lbs??
