Had gone spinning by the rocks.

I just reached the rocks and was waiting for a friend while i was getting my tackel ready . Then i got a call from my buddy Lloyd that he cant make it. Casting from the rocks is still very dangerous as the sea is still rough and a wave could sweep one anytime. Still i decied to make a few cast and then pack .

On my fourth cast i felt a strong tug but no line left the reel, the pull was still strong so i kept on reeling thinking it may be some garbage. Within a min the weight from the other end of my line was just beneth me but was deep still not ready to surface, suddenly i got 3 short runs, a hope lit in my heart that i had a fish on my lure.I think my drag was too tight. The only problem was i was alone and no one to gaff the fish . It took me 5 damed minutes to get it out . Finaly to my delight my first Thread fin. Was expecting a barra but got me my first Rawas.

All six hook firmly set in both the lower and upper jaw, had to cut them free. The fish was not very big but tiped the scale to 4.75 Kg. To be true never expected a Rawas while fishing for barras. I always had a wish to go solo and land something .

Hope to test my Lady luck Again while she's still shining on me.

Congrats Mario, on the fine catch.
Next time you go for ravas keep a very very light drag and you sure will enjoy the fight more.
The ravas lips are quite soft and may tear off during a fight with tight drag
Tight lines

Ravi

Raj thanks for shareing. Man i dont know why the sight of this fish makes me happy. Who caught it. Its realy a very big fish . but there are two different types of species. 1) With a green back they are mainly inshore and 2) with blue back deep sea/ off shore. The ones i caught were green back and one in the pic looks like a blue back. I dont know much of this species. But one thing is for sure its an awsome catche.

Thats my friend Ahmed.
You can call this location a offshore as when you reach the point it is around 300+ meters between the sea.

Raj, what you call offshore is when you reach "Blue Water".

First of all Congrats Mario on the Ravas !

Bobby, if offshore is as you described, then offshore doesnt exist for people from Bombay.......especially since the water is brown for many many kilometers  (Just kidding mate)

Raj, congrats on the Gar fish. Last season I did catch a few of them that size. they did come in 2 colours, green back & the other was a pale brown back. I consider them pesty fish that mess up your line. They also hit small poppers on a slow retreive.

regards,
Keyur

Congrats Mario,
It is great to see a Ravas in Mumbai after a long time.
The last one caught by me was maybe in 1992 or '93.
As Bobby would say," happy days are here again" !!!

Syd.

A very nice fish Mario. Last weekend I saw them feeding happily on unsuspecting mullets, away from my casting range.

Well done mate and keep on doing it.

Ali. :P
