hit the port today at 0545. the locals were out in force and had nets spread all over the place. this put a damper on my spirit and to further bolster this i lost a popper on my first cast.broke off during casting !
tried changing the lure, retrieve speed and the location to no avail.decided to catch a tiddler at least but even they did not condescend. in disgust sat down to take a breather and the i noticed that small fish were being herded into bait balls and that periodically the ball would lunge this way or that way.
the fish were the approximate size of minnows and i took out a yo zuri crystal minnow (s) and lobbed it in. on the fourth cast it was taken in around 2 ft of water by this fish. as i was standing on the dock, i could see the entire sequence of the run up, take and the run off before the line and the drag brought it upto a halt.
at least better than catching tiddlers. but i miss the trevally !
any ideas about the fish species ?

the guys who ate it (do not eat what u cant spell-old jungle saying) called it "vizari" or something like that.
the locals had upheld that the fish was great eating and has only a single bone with great flesh.

Hi Ace_Doc, What we have here might be the Indian Flathead. Look up Platycephalus indicus. I have a really lousy internet connection here.

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

It is a Flathead... I wouldn’t know what species exactly. The have quiet a lot of spikes on its head and back if i am not wrong. And in spite of their ugly appearance the fish taste really good.

Regards
Prabin

That is a Dusky Flathead - Platycephalus Fuscus I'd say or Indicus
