Me and Binu hit the Jersey shore and got some action today.
We fished 11 hours from 11:00 PM yesterday without a touch.
But things chaged in the next hour as bluefish invaded the backwater busting bunker.

I had about 6 fish and Binu had 2 nice fish. We managed to release 2 and kept 6.
The Rapala lip grip sucked, else we could have managed to release a couple more :(

I do not have much pics without blood gushing out of the gills.
The onces on the platform were caught by us as I was fighting a good one.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I had a gaff with 4' long wooden handle to land the fish. If gaffed right the fish can be released safely.

Beautiful fish Maruthu. Congrats, they look amazing. Do they put up a good fight ?

As compared to gaffing I guess, I dont remember very well but there is this one way where the release a landing net with long nylon cord and get the fish in the net with wide mouth. not too sure where I have seen this, tricky but surely would be better than a GAFF :)

What was your setup like? I mean the surf rod looks promising. what make is it, Tsunami??

Thanks DeZZ.

I was using an 1 piece 9' custom lamiglas (fibreglass) and an Abu 7000 (20 lb mono).
Bluefish put up a great fight, and a couple of fish that I caught that day took some drag.
Binu was fishing with his 2 piece 10' Lamiglas Ron Arra rod and Van Staal 200 (40 lb Braid).

All fish were caught on Hopkins and T-Hex metal lures.

hi dezz,

we use a landing net with long nylon rope to land the fish in futala lake. I made a seperate such type of landing net for myself especially for this lake in nagpur

do u ever been to nagpur?????

Manish,

I probably will fish that spot one more time this year.
I fish from the beach or jetty almost all the time and do not require a landing net.

I carry my gaff to the jetty when the sea is rough

Thanks a lot for the comments guys :)
We had a great trip, though it was very tiring .. The fish were feeding very far from the banks..
And only the best cast made the difference.. The fish fought very well for their size, and some of Maruthu's fish did a tail walk too..

Regards,
Binu

Hi Maruthu and Binu,

Goo to see you back. Some nice fish there. the lamiglass is a good rod. We have the blue fish close by on the southern coast of oman. A few of our friends make an annual trip to the beaches there to catch fish from the surf.

regards,

Jeen

Hi Manish,

Nope never been to any place other than my native, goa, mumbai and Dubai. Waters in my native place are still to be explored by me. Leave alone Nagpur. But you never know passion might get me there :)
