I haven't fly fished in my home waters but can say a few words from my little knowledge.
With an 8 wt rod, you should probably do well on Barramundi and Barracuda in a calm surf.

I strongly believe that a Cuda will hit a long fly in bright green colour and clousers should work well for Barramundi.
Hope someone else will give a better answer to your question. But, it will be great to hear from you when you are back.

Maruthu

I've tried the fly but limited range, surf and other people on the beach at night really caused me to struggle. I got a couple of hits on big (pike size) decievers but failed to hook up.
If I were to try it again, I'd definatly sit myself on a canoe or kayak anchored at the mouth of one of the rivers at night.
Don't forget a pair of clear safety glasses if you're going to try it though.
