Great Job, Nice fish Vince!.. How far(from the shore) do they generally feed out there in cochin??

Out here we do see them feed "some times" but usually they are way out of casting range... I am still waiting to land my first threadfin.

Cheers,
Madhur.

Nice Catch Vincent. Congratulations!

What was the weight of this Threadfin and did you catch it in backwaters?

Regards,

Arun

hey guys

wait till you guys see what my friends caught the same day. 1 is 6 kg and the other a 5.75 kg, the one i caught was a 5 kg, all were caught on x raps 12s on 15-20 lb main line, me i also use a 50 lb stren flurocarbon leader. they were all caught opposite to mattancherry from vypin beach(estuary) , they are all but wiped out by now by the commercial fishermen who even take the 1 lb sized ones in numbers to sell. most of the feeding activity is seen just beyond casting distance but also close to shore at times. have not caught any of them on spoons, know a few locals whom i introduced to lure fishing. btw thats sam and biju both from cochin and also ia members

there were some losses too that day to big fishes

3 xraps lost, 1 xrap due to a break off, others to fishes, , another friend lost another xrap 12 and a bleeding rap the next day, so i guess the toll was too high, but the takes were good too

:-)vincent

Actually Hamour is a kind of Grouper, not a Threadfin.

Vincent, you tease us man, great fish. Good to see someone catch Ravas, really special. Vincent, when they are taking on top water like that try surface poppers, they will be deadly. The "splash retrieve" will attract the Ravas and bring them to the lure. You will improve your chances considerably on blind casts.

Very nice video Vincent. What is all that stuff in the water, seaweed or garbage?

Nice mates you have there, looked very happy for you. Like the guy with the gaff and the fellow who took off the lure is quite brave I think.

The place where you were fishing, does it have a sandy bottom? I presume it was on the full tide, perhaps just after the turn.

bobby

all that stuff is mostly rotting sea weed seasonal over here, that fish was caught on an outgoing tide after a (not so high) high tide around 4 p.m on 1st december. the activity has considerably come down since then and i strongly suspect they have been near totally wiped out by the traditional fishermen who have been at it since september when they arrived first, those folks don't spare even the half kg fish they catch frequently, too sad for us angler folks who haven't caught more than 10 this entire season, a fact i know for certain. and yes that area is a sandy beach but with a sudden drop off about 25 metres into the water, something like a deep shipping channel.

Bobster 25 metres dropoff from a sandy beach ... would be dynamite with live bait or even cut bait especially at night on a slow ebb tide .... me hands and feet is itching .... :

Go there Freddy Boy, I swear to God, if I was down I would have come over to Chimbai and dragged you out of your house [smilie=poke.gif] [smilie=poke.gif] and we could have done one of those old time trips, only this time alot further. Stood on the shore there like gunslingers : [smilie=ebil-thumbup.gif]

Nice catch Vincent.
First fish and a Raavas, what more can you ask for?
I was at Mangalore for three days last month trying to get the Raavas. Not even a tadpole i caught. However my friend caught 2 Barras. 10 and 3 kgs.
