i am planning to use a 15 lb test line for shore fishing in and around chennai. the rod and reel are good enough it seems.
is the line strength enough for cudas and GTs?

Bonefisher,

IMO, If you are plugging from a clean sandy beach, I think it should be okay for GTs (provided there is enough line for the run and knots well tied). But the fish needs to be beached very carefully. For Cudas, that will be an ideal line test.

For bait fishing, I was suggested with a minimum of 25# test mono line. You may even hook up a ray :(

MM,

The GTs that are found in common from the surf are in 6 to 8 Kilos.
However I have seen fish in 20 kilo range taken on bait from the surf.

In the fishing harbour, there are fish in the 30 kilo rage breaking the surface right at the bottom of the foot. But I can't get them to hit my lure. When they hit, they do it in a very shy manner and don't get hooked up :(

What size hooks are you using? Perhaps they are too small?

Bobby,

The hooks were 3/0 VMC trebles on a halco roosta popper.
This was a while back and I haven't been there for a while for the morning session fishing when GT's are feeding like 'crazy'.

For GT's over 15Kgs you would need larger than 3/0 size hooks to go around the jaw bone confortably. That will improve hookups.
