Greetings,

Today my dream came true. I had landed my dream Giant Trevally :D

Thanks everyone that helped me with information and also helped me with HOPE as I was targeting these guys for more than a year under the sun and the moon.

A local came jogging by that time and asked me to move about 300 yards toward the north (that is the spot where I normally fish) as there were GTs feeding in the past two three days. I took his advice and moved.

I had a GT hit a Yozuri hydro popper in a couple of casts and ran like crazy. I was fishing with an 8' spinning rod paired with a Shimano Stradic 5000 loaded with 150 yards of 30lb power pro braid. It took me about 15 minutes to bring him in (The fish weighed 15 pounds on a scale)

Pics coming soon. I asked a guy take a video with my digicam and hopefully it comes out okay on youtube.

Edited: Here is the link for Youtube video :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_MOCVdT33E

Thanks,
Maruthu

Geniuses

Yes, they are especially good barbequed or baked in a leaf. The meat is a bit tough and you may want to leave the skin.

Trevally and Cucumber in Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients:

8 large outside cabbage leaves (any variety, ie white, savory or chinese)
600g trevally fillets (skinned and boned)
200g cucumber (peeled and sliced)
100g butter
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Sea salt
2 teaspoons peppercorns

Blanch the cabbage leaves for 1 minute in boiling water, then plunge into cold water and drain. In 100g butter softly cook the trevally fillets until half done, then remove.

Lay the cabbage leaves flat. Put some trevally, cucumber slices onto each leaf, then sprinkle with spices and drizzle with butter from the pan. Roll up into tight parcels.

To finish cooking use either a steamer, or pan with 1/2 cm of water and a lid, over moderate heat.

Serve with a fresh tomato sauce. Makes 4 servings.

Mken, my views ... upto 12 lbs they are a good table fish ... have a cocunutty flavor to the flesh .... above that size look good in photographs only ...

Thanks Fred and Rulerofsun!

I'll stick with fresh/dried bombay duck, rawas, snapper and some great fried mandhali. Dam that little fish with a cold one is as close to perfection as possible.

Well done indeed! And only using light tackle as well.
Will you use heavier tackle in case you get a bigger one?
If so what heavier tackle will you use?

I'm green with envy!
:D

Arun,

Hopefully the video should in Youtube by this Saturday. Will let you know.

Yorkshire Boy,

Today I was fishing with a 10' medium heavy conventional rod for them.
I always miss hook up with conventionals :x , Missed a hook up with a GT and also a 4' barracuda that took the Hopkins metal lure and was up in the air like a rocket.

Thanks Murathu for sharing the pics.

If the phtograph is taken at the spot where you landed the fish, then it means you were casting from the Beach and the place is not rocky. Is it correct?

Regards,

Arun

Incredible fish. Just how far out from the beach did it take the lure.

Hey there Matey!

Was looking at the pictures again and drooling. Then I noticed that you reel was on the sand.

Just a word of caution mate but that's the best way to kill that reel fast. Sand is a reels worst nightmare.

cheers

Thanks again everyone for the kind and encouraging words.

Arun, you are right about the location.

Ken, the fish took the popper when it was within 10 yards from me.

Madhur, as far as I know the GTs were feeding in the first gut between the wash (i.e bottom of the foot) and the first sand bar which should be approximately 80 yards.

Maruthu

Hi Maruthu,

Fantastic!! That's a very respectable fish on the gear you were using. [smilie=coolup.gif]

I hope this opens up a new world of surface fishing for you. But beware!!! It's a highly addictive form of fishing.

Please feel free to ask me for any info that you might want/need. Would be pleased to help.

Regards,

Mighty Marlin
