Has anybody from India bought any fishing equipment online from international tackle dealers? Were there any problems regarding delivery/ customs etc ?
Going through the various websites one is so tempted to place an order for that particular reel or rod that would never be available in any indian tackle shop - BUT will it reach me ?

Hi,

I had bought a few items from cabelas and you must have seen how much worried I was ( the threads were shown by Rustam).

But there was no such problem like the customs or the postal deptt. I paid 503/- or 513/- (I forgot) as customs duty.

The problem lies with the cabelas people only. For a few things, they had packed it in two boxes and I had to pay 35 USD extra.

Just a few days back I had ordered a few more things from cabelas.

The order confirmation report from their side came like this

Merchandise = $181.54
Postage = $72.62
ORDER TOTAL = $254.16

You will receive another notification when shipment of the following occurs:

1 of 11-9412 CABELA'S TOURNAMENT ZX4000 / TOURNEY TRAIL SPIN TT-702 @ $79.98
each
In stock-Approx delivery in 7-14 dys

I had ordered those in such a way that they could have been put inside the tackle box itself except the rod. I was thinking that these would come in one box. But it turned out that there are three boxes which might mean $35 per box.

If the bill comes out to be the same as I have thought, then I will have to pay 105 UDS as shipping only.

My things are supposed to reach me on 21th of this month.

I can tell you the exact amount for shipping after I get my stuff. The customs duty is also there.

Cheers,
Apoo

There is no problem ordering online from Cabela's - the goods reach and are delivered, the duty and shipping is not too high - be a bit careful when you are clicking/checking out. the best option though is to bill yr credit card and ship to a relative in the US, who doesn't mind lugging some stuff back to india - that saves most of the ship and duty costs; also the range on the net is quite good compared to physically searching thru a real cabela's store :-)

hi Viraj,
nice to see you logged in........well ordering from cabelas is ok, but these guys send weird parcels and also the proper bill inside after telling them not to do so.
I ordered 20 rapala jointed plugs...they sent this in 3 parcels. the first had 10, the second had 8 and the third had 2 and a free dip net which made the parcel so big , they charged me duty.
also postage is to bombay and extra to hyderabad, although you are billed by cabelas to hyd. i had to pay rs 3000 on that last parcel and Rs 1000 postage on the other 2 bombay hyd
but then its great to get the stuff at your door step.
cheers...
