hello Mahaseerken/arokiaraj/riaz/indianAngler/Aaron/Dev/Santosh/Keyur
first thank you to all, well here is something about myself, mostly into sea fishing, tried freshwater fishing, regret didnt really find it as enticing as the sea fishes, i mostly like to troll or do live bait fishing, its a nice sight to see when your live bait is swimming around and gets swallowed by a big fighter

Welcome and enjoy your fishing, do you hook the live bait yourself and how long does the live bait live with the hook in it? Don't fall off the boat when the big bad fish bites on.

Good to have you here. Shame you're not so fired up by freshwater fishing.
I'm hoping to have a trip to Malaysia soon, to tangle with the mahseer up country.

Perhaps you should PM junglebum and see what he's up to, he is in your part of the World.

hello michaelaga
thank you
well it all depends on the type of baitfish that i use, but mostly i dont hookup the baitfish but use cable ties to rigup the baitfish to the hooks, this way, the fish are more lively and free to swim around and can remain alive for hours
cheers
caesar

Please tell us about the fishing in Malaysia.

Do you really have to wait for hours to get a bite?
I would've thought it would be snapped up straight away.
Are you after Marlin or something?

I'm very ignorant about a whole load of fishing styles.
Please educate me. :?

YB.

Hi Caesar

Welcome to IA.

What sort of fish are you catching on the livebaits mostly? Can you explain how you are using the cable ties - sounds interesting.

Andypike

hi andypike
well fishing with live bait can get you almost anything, barracuda, queen, garoupa, king, cobia, shark, giant trevally, tuna, sails, etc
example, i use flexible nylon coated 49strand steel for the toothy creatures (ie 60lbs), depending on the size of the live bait accordingly you will have to measure the rigs
at the end of the nylon use a small hook just to hook the live bait in the mouth, which will not disable the fish, then either use single or double or triple (your choice), measured and held in place to be in the middle of the bait fish either with a crimp or knot on the trace and then use the cable tie held in place again with a crimp of know on the trace to be at the tail of the baitfish and trim off the excess cabletie
depending on the size of the baitfish, you might have to use more than one hook
i found using this method, the baitfish remains alive for hours and more lively as long as you dont pull him in
also using a ballon or float to keep the fish at your desired depth can help in targetting your species, (garoupa more towards the bottom , while king/barracuda/coba midway and sails/kings/queens more towards the upper level
i hope u will be able to comprehend my explaination
all the best

hello yorkshireboy
well, i guess if you are not in the right place, it could take you hours to get a bite, but then all said and done, there are no catch limits or catch size, with the sports or commercial fisherman, so much of the enviorment has been badly almost burnt to the ground, there is a lot more than can be done to protect the fishing. eventhough the anglers try to protect the sails by c n r but still the commerical boats are out there without any restrictions who just pull in everything they can lay their hands on which will get them a buck
i know its sad,, but until some legislation can be introduced, the killing goes on
surely there are monsters lurking around, its possible to land big gts upto 30-40kgs and sails are abundant during aug/sep and an occasional marlin, and a lot of other species
