Hello to all of you fisher kings. Apologies for not doing the intro earlier but I have been forgetting the name of my fishing rod everytime. I kept going Shimano...shimano whaaat? Okay its a Shimano matchline 6-7kgs packed with a jarvis walker reel combo...came with the rod. I have an eight pound line on it and haven't caught anything except for a bream once.

I have been more of an air rifle freak till eljefe pointed this site to me. Don't know much about the sport but having caught a catfish once, I seem to like it. I don't much care if I catch anything or not long as I get the chance to try it out.

Will probably spend more time doing so in winter. Best experience was with mahaseerken and eljefe in 45*C at the ole pump house. I had never seen such clean water till then.

Somehow the people in this site seem to be having more fun than at IFG which I frequent more often.

Thank You for all the great stuff on this board.

Regards,

DEV

P.S. I am probably the third Assamese on this board. ;-) :o

Howdy there Dev,

Saw you lurking around but then one must respect a man's decision to remain anonymous especially when he has a gun.

so mate give up the gun and start playing with your rod. it's more fun, believe me.

Have to tell you about the last trip. Since the morning was kind to us we went looking for a few new spots. A long drive along a canal brought us to a place with 'purana paani' as the gillie called it. We saw lots of fish (murrel) but that is not the point.

As i got of the jeep we noticed a partridge walking a few feet in front of me, this is not more than 4 feet. It did not run and even stopped to turn and look back.

A little later as we were leaving it brought its mates, including a nice black one. All were fearless. They had forgotten they were edible!!!

Hi Dev,

Welcome to IA...

would suggest avoiding the winters to begin in cause you might get dissapointed and abandon a wonderful sport!!!

Like M'Ken said..."so mate give up the gun and start playing with your rod. it's more fun, believe me."

Cheers,
Dhruv

Let us know when you catch that big one...

The best part of fishing is that we can catch fish and not use our rigs to catch plastic fish or some other option as in the shooting sports. Mentally everyone is squeezing the trigger at any partridge or game that one sees.

But at least in this sport you use the rod for its intended purpose. Sanjay I am not a fifth of a pro. I was taught how to tie knots by eljefe, mahseer ken showed me how to have the reel on the correct side. Till then I was spooling away with my right hand grinning and muttering ambidextrous...ambidextrous ;-) Ignorance is such bliss.

I really enjoy the humour on this board and fishing stories are really amazing. But what is more amazing is the size of the fish caught instead of tales of 'you should have seen the one that got away'. .

Thank you I shall now take up my rod in earnest and not make excuses the next time Eljefe, Dhruv and Mahseer Ken extend an invitation.

Totally agree with the "mentally we al pull the trigger every time we see game". Some of us also do a bit of lip smacking. But all that is in the past.

Now we just drink up 'kala tittars' and burp with pleasure.

Ha Dev,
You must talk about the time we went to 'Toxic greens by the Hindon'? we were spinning with floats attached yup, you people are reading this right!! Absolute newbies.
...and ended up catching a magur each-I must admit , mine was smaller than his ;)
Dev's father came along for the outing, pour encouragement les outres??
The water was so polluted, we cut our line and hooks and gave em away to the bunch of ' line and hook rolled on a plastic can/paan paraag dabba' type local anglers.
And one of them sneered at my mustad no. 4 OShaugnessy and donated a local (Ghaziabad ka maal hai) 1/0 hook to me
We've been places buddy...

At that time my stick was a chinese six foot thingie called red fox, had a reel which eljefe kept telling me was a lefty's to which I kept mumbling ambidextrous...ambidextrous.

We caught loads of jute sacks and once fought one for half an hour ;-).
But then everything changed when Eljeffe and I caught the magur. That also on borrowed earthworm and borrowed hooks.

Had done about six trips or so till we caught that Magur...what did we know? long as it had water it hadda have fish.

Now since Eljeffe has done the Magellan bit hopefully we'll go crazy somewhere else with our rods and lines.

Dad loved these outings though he cribbed about the waste of a Sunday when Mom hovered by ;-). But he hung in for at least two outings and rarely misses an invite. Asked him to get his own rod this time fraaam the abraaad.

Regards,

Dev
