Post subject:  Hello everyone

Hi my name is Andy and I live in Wiltshire, England. I stumbled on this site and liked what I saw so joined up. The exchange of ideas and information from various parts of India and the rest of the world is good to see and I was especially impressed with some of the great photos.

I've been fishing for forty plus years, mostly coarse fish but I have been known to dabble with sea fishing and trout fishing on occasion.

I harboured an interest in mahseer for ten years or so before I was fortunate enough to travel to the Cauvery at Galibore in March 1994 where I caught my first mahseer and developed an addiction to the place.
I also met someone here briefly called Owen who travelled to Galibore on his motorbike. Does that name sound familiar by any chance? I assume this is the same Owen whose messages appear frequently here but I could be wrong.
I think I've also met another 'Indian Angler' member locally a few times if 'Redfin' is who I think he is!

Since that life changing trip in 1994 I've travelled to Galibore four more times and had some fantastic fish, unforgettable experiences and made some very good friends in the process, some of whom I fish with now both here and abroad.
I've also fished in Egypt, Spain, Florida Keys and recently Uganda but I daresay I will be back to India in the future sometime.

I look forward to some interesting communications with members.

Hi Andy,

Welcome abroad.

You might have met a different Owen if you were not fishing. But on the other way round, if you have met any Owen in the waters near Bangalore, it has to be this Owen Bosen only. None other than IA's 'OMO'.

Believe me, I heve not met him personally till date, but from his posts and replies I have learnt a lot form him. Jude has quoted the right way. Owen is the Masheer guru.

Hey Andy,

Good to have you here. Mahseer men are most welcome here. Looking forward to hearing about some of the fish you landed on those trips to our favourite river.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Mighty Marlin, is that a giant trevally you're holding? How big was it? If it is a GT, a mate of mine in Fiji catches them and says the scraps are awesome. I'm hoping to visit him in 2008 for a spot of fishing and diving. I think he gets them on lures, particularly on poppers.

As regards my Cauvery fishing, I've been very fortunate to have had four very big mahseer (over fifty pounds), 86lbs being the largest caught on ragi whilst sat on Galibore Rock just after dark in 1998. This was the best (most enjoyable) of my trips for various reasons although it was cut short by a few days as apparently Veerappan was after us so we were ordered back to Bangalore by the police. He won't be doing that again!

I first went to Galibore in 1994 and caught mahseer to 24lbs and then returned in 1996, 1998, 2001 and the last time was 2005, doing a total of about fourteen weeks by the river over all these trips. I may be back in 2009 with my daughter.

Welcome aboard, Andy.
We'll have to have a pint and chin wag about the place next time I visit Dr Redfin. It is Mark, and he had his first trip n April this year.
Caught a 20, after a frustrating 2 days of missed takes etc.

Last time I visited, Mark took me to a Keralan restuarant in Malmesbury, been to there? They are having an outdoor thali night soon; assuming the monsoon stops! It's right on the side of the Avon, sit and watch the fish while eating Keralan Fish Curry; sounds good to me...

Hi Steve, I think I saw you in the Fishing Magic site articles which I enjoyed. Some great photos too.
I know the Avon around Malmesbury quite well but not the restaurant - sounds good. A pint and chat would be very welcome next time you're in my neck of the woods, it would be good to compare notes. I should be conger fishing down your way in September out of Plymouth, can't wait!

Hi Andy,
Great to catch up with you after all these years.
The net has made this world a small place.
Yes the passion for fishing never dies, and i am the same Owen you met in 1994.
Hope we can catch up again some time.
Do you know the where abouts of Richard Pitts, and Richard Gardner ?

Author:  andypike [ Thu Jun 21, 2007 10:32 pm ]

Hi Owen
Good to see you're still keen, as you say the passion burns forever in some of us. Part of not growing up perhaps despite growing old!
I've heard nothing for certain of Richard Pitts for many years just the odd rumour that he's turned up here and there. Someone mentioned his name last time I was in Uganda of all places so he may have been out there fishing but it was unconfirmed.
Rich Gardner still runs the tackle business as far as I know but I've had no contact with him personally for probably 8 years or so.
Last I heard he was in Florida where he had his own fishing boat on the Keys somewhere - it's a tough life.
