I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce my self to the members of this forum.

I am from Pakistan and just wanted to see what my friends from India are doing as we share most of the same fish species and habitat.

I started out fisihing when I was 3 Years old. My father introduced me to this sport. Then there was no turning back, as i have been on numerous fishing trips with my Father and my Uncle. Mostly interested in fresh water fishing. I think fishing is theeeee best sport.

Caught many Masheer from Warsak, Mangla and Chakdara not very big ones 4-6 Kgs. The biggest fish that I have managed to Catch was a China weighing 12 Kg.

Been to most of the fresh water spots in Punjab and NWFP.

Other PICS of me and my fishing buddies can be seen at the PGFA yahoo group in my album team ISB/RWP.

Fav. Places
Warsak Dam for Masher.
Tarbela Dam for Masher
Mangla Dam for Masher and Shingara (Tanigar).

Hi Shapan,
Welcome to IA and the nutty mahseer club.
Would appreciate if you could post some pictures on IA of the mahseer that you catch in Pakisthan. Inspite of what Gavin might say "Size does not matter".
Regards
Owen

Thank you every 1 for the warm welcome will post all my pics that I have. Some of Masheer and of the other catches as well. But the masheer in Pakistan are facing a tuff time. Catches are becoming scarce and the places where u catch good fish are beoming scarce because of over fishing, potching and loss of habitat.

U guys at India are lucky that you'll still have protected areas where ur catching theeeeee king of all fish.

Cheers and Tight Lines

Regards

Shaphan Samuel

Hi Shaphan,
It is a hard struggle even here in India. What with the poverty and corruption things change slowly, but they have on a few stretches and the results are beginning to show. Lets hope things continue to improve. People from Pakisthan need to take similar initiatives to protect small stretches and turn them into angling destinations where catch and release are the order of the day.
Providing alternate employment to poachers, and making them the guardians of the rivers and lakes, will go a long way in achieving results.
Regards
Owen

Hi there Shaphan,

Its me Fateh from the PGFA.
When're you planning to go to Mangla? I went again today and caught six Singharas, largest about six pounds. All on spinners.

Owen,

In Pakistan the biggest problem faced by the mahseer is not poaching by individuals, but government policy.
The building of dams on all of the major rivers has disrupted the upstream spawning routes of the mahseer and indiscriminate commercial netting by Government Contractors has seriously dented the fish stocks, these are the factors that are leading to the decine of the mahseer.

Not much you can do about the building of dams, but there should be a way of protesting against commercial netting on such rivers. Does the mahseer have a protected species status in Pakisthan ?
Here in India, most mahseer waters that are protected, run through or near reserve forests or wild life sanctuaries. So on paper it is illegal to fish in these places in the first place without proper authorization. Reality is quite different.

Yeah Owen ur rite. Much cant be done about the building of dams, but something has to be done about the commercial fishing going on at these major dams and rivers.

All across pakistan be it Mangla, Tarbella (Dams) or the Idus river and its tributeries, comerrical fishing is going on and the fish are having a hard time at it. Be it the Masheer or other game fish Like Rahu etc.
