Hello, I am a keen angler from England.I am visiting India and Nepal for the first time on 5 April `07 for 2 months. Back home I fish mainly for carp and barbel. My best fish is a 33lb mirror carp from my local river Wye. Mahseer really appeal to me and I`ve always wanted to fish for them after watching John Wilson`s fantastic film. Corracles, shreaded leaders and fish that you just cant stop!
I will be travelling without tackle. Is suitable tackle available for hire/sale locally? Will I always need a guide? baits or lures? What are good areas/rivers? what about other species?
I have many questions but I hope some of you will answer them. I will read the posts for info. but don`t be shy about telling me how to go about one of my lifelong dreams.
Many thanks THseer. conact me direct if you are in india THseer@hotmail.co.uk

hi ya there THseer,

welcome aboard mate

lots of water here but very few fish.

same goes for the tackle. best bring your own or you'll end up with a handline. water sking behind a big mahseer.

All the answers regarding baits, lures, guides are already there somewhere on the site. troll and you'll get the answers.

or tell us the places you'll be visiting and a few more details and the answers will come pouring in

cheers mate

Hi THseer,... welcome to IA..

when in mumbai, checkout the market near masjid bander station for tackle ... don't expect cheap prices & top of the line stuff..

hv a happy & safe fishing..

I would suggest you bring your own tackle with you, or it may be a problem..I do not know if some of the camps provide tackle but I would still recomend you get your own stuff. At least a couple of good travel rods and reels.

Welcome THSeer, hope you get the info you need on the forum. Please keep in mind that you must post under the appropriate forum. Some of your posts have been moved.

With regard to tackle for mahseer, you will be sorely disappointed if you plan on buying quality tackle for mahseer in India. The mahseer will test your tackle to it's extreme and you will lose fish and good opportunities due to inappropriate tackle.

If you would like info from a travelling angler on what tackle to use for mahseer send a PM to KenL

I have sent you an email with an article on mahseer. Go through it and you will understand a bit more.

I wish you luck on catching your dream fish.

Bopanna
