It feels great to know of this link to stay connected to people who share the same interest..ANGLING.
I have been mostly into fresh water fishing and have caught Mirgal,Rahu, Catla, Hybrid, Kalabose.. The best of all was a 20 kg Catla. What a fight...to be remembered for life. The problem is i would like to explore new places and would like someone to guide me through. M keen on sea fishing as well...so please take time to share information. Thanks

Hi Derek,
Calabose is also know as 'The Kanoshi' labeo Calabasu.

Hybrid : I dont know much of this, but of what i have heard its a breed of Rahu and Silver Carp.

I do have some pictures of Hybrid.. need to scac them though..I tried uploading one of the pic that i had recently scanned.. its a catla 20 kgs caught at Powai. But i encountered some image-size problems.. i have downloaded pixia provided by Bops..shall share the image with u guys soon.

I have seen your image gallery... good pic.. is that 'sea fishing' in India.

regards,
Vishal

Kalibose is what the Bengalis call the Calabanse

I have seen your image gallery... good pic.. is that 'sea fishing' in India.

If you are reffering to the Cobi, then that must be Fred's fish caught at Vijay Durg.
The other salty on the forum is Bobby(does not post pictures of what he catches i notice).
Plus there are Chandy's catches which are off the coast of the USof A

Regards
Owen

Hi Vishal,

Welcome to IA. It's nice to see what other anglers are doing across the country. That's a fantastic catla you have there, my one and only catla was about 20 times smaller

Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

Hi Owen,

This one’s for you, my largest fish on film and perhaps the largest one I have ever caught:

Image

Being the eternal optimist my glass is always half full or 1/100th’s full in this case.

I take solitude from the fact that had I caught this little bugger 5 years later it would be some kind of record for the location. So you can say I released a 40lb fish, when I let this guy go..

Hi Owen,

That place is Carter Rd. Bandra, Bombay about 15 mins walk (from the road) to Fred's place.

I seriously do not have too many pictures as I am the one with the camera taking them almost everytime. And in the other ones there are some introveted persons who do not want them selves splashed on the net.

The last time I was fishing seriously was August last year. I don't get too much of a chance to fish here. That is why I was really looking forward to the trip this month that I had to postpone/cancel.

Here is another one for you Owen, caught in Hong Kong Harbour, Wanchai, Convention Center:

Image

MM, that was not bait something that I really caught!!, so was the one above. A couple of months ago I had taken the kids spinning and was foul-hooking these same fish at regular intervals, there were so many of them. But there was nothing to feed off them..

Hi Owen,

It's been a while. Hope all is well with you? Owen that's an excellent idea! Now we just have to get Bobby to come Mahseer fishing with us, it'll be such a relief to have our bait taken care of

Vishal,

The Katla in the pic, taken at Powai, was it foul hooked?

Was it released? I understand Powai fish are toxic...

Hi Owen,
It's only been work for me so far  Line's snagged and frayed. So no action from here.... I thought I'd get a chance to go out with either Rustam or Derek but that never happened as well.
I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed, hoping to head out by december.

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

Hi All,

So much to say and so little time:

Vishal, no worries mate, just for my general edification.

Gavin/Owen, not quite the natural kind mate, I like clean smooth legs, waxed or shaved does not matter. And as far as full moons go, careful what you wish for...

Fred, spot on was the first one to start fishing that place mate, will tell you the story how I found the fish there some day, some real large ROCK COD there and largest MJ was about 8 - 10 lbs. You get permit further down the road from there. Even Barra, I have seen them feed there but landed very small ones on live bait a few years ago. Full Moon you get some large Barra there night fishing but very risky.

You should try Lilaviat Hospital, have seen some decent sized Barra feed there, did not have the time to wet a line there as I had to leave the next day, you cannot take those fish to the table though. (over the wall from the breaker rocks below).

Hi Guys.. nice to see replies to my message..

Derek.. All the best for your trip to Goa.. i recently been to Goa and had planned to goa sea fishing with Jeffery... i heard he runs a club on Candolin beach.. but the rains ruined my plans.

Owen.. Your right the place where i fish there are many bengalis and i guess the word Calabose has descended from them.

Marlin... Thanks for the compliment, i am sure with such lovely people around and the oppurtunities ahead you will catch a bigger fish that the one posted by me.

Bobby... Your right too... at Powai the technique used is foul hooking... And its exclusively practised there...After living in mumbai for 31 years, i have been used to all the possible toxic.. now if a little gets into the fish it doesnt really matter after we consume it...

Hi Bobby, That is a 'gutsy' photo of you with the prize fish! You had the right rod for it judging from the slow taper. You seemed to be enjoying life none the less. I dare say the fish was a bonus! Good one mate!!
Cheers,
Glenn

Would love meeting up for a drink sometime later this month or in the 1st week of November...
