Hi All,
I am Sanjay Nagarkar and I live in Pune.
Its great to have a forum (thanks Bopanna) and to know that there are a quite a few of us, fishing for sport.
I have been fishing most of my life but have pursued it seriously for aprox. 25 yrs. I enjoy both fresh and saltwater angling. The coast being a distance from Pune, it is not fished very frequently, I have fished from Mumbai upto Karwar (Gokarna & Honawar) though, mostly caught snapper, jacks, baracuda, gropers & barramundi.
The local fishing fishing is seasonal, Rahu & mirigal now and in summer its mahaseer, carp & mural. The big one's are once in a way.The last 2 years having had good monsoon's gives me hope, a mahseer was caught in the Indrayani river, after such a long time that most local's could not identify it!
So hoping for better time's to come.
Regard's,
Sanjay Nagarkar.

Hi Sanjay,
Welcome to the forum, and have a great time.
Interesting about the Indarayani Mahseer. Do you have a picture of it by any chance ? Also it would be interesting to see some pictures of this river, and how it compares in terrain to the North Indian and South Indian rivers.

Doing fine Sanjay, I was supposed to come down last week and do an extensive fishing run/trip, starting Karwar moving down to Bom, unfortunately the weather god did not permit it.

Postponed to November now.

Hi Sanjay ... Welcome to the forum ... Bob ..... real shitty weather , wise decision to cancel your trip .. rained continously and had a chance tp go out just thrice in 4 days ... but had some great luck ( 32 yellow tail snapper ) in an hour of fishing .. 5 around the 14 lbs mark and the rest between 7-8 lbs .. great non stop action . Also found myself on the boat 8 miles from shore and in the midst of natures great mysteries - the sardine run -- was a couple of miles wide and long as far as the eyes could see somewhere in the region of maybe 10 - 12 kilometres .. the guys just kept jumping inot the boat once they hit the shadow of the boat ... in the end we had the ice box full - around 7 kgs of sardines which we distributed to the locals - Will send you the complete log as too busy with clearing mails

Hi Fred,

What a waste time it would have been for me, I am thankful I took the advice of my mates and postponed. I think I will be on 1 week Nov. Co-incidental circumstances though, I will be in Singapore again just before I get to India, exact time frame. I can exchange the rod then.

Yellow Tail Snapper, I am confused, are these Yellow Fin Bream? AKA Paloo.

The Sardine run must have been a sight. I have had a few experiences in the deep as well, will exchance stories next month if we meet up. This was probably what the locals in Bombay call "Sarik". Sardines do a lot of funny things during this time. I remember we used to catch them off Carter road on plain black hooks baited with "NOTHING" during this time and it was only a matter of dropping the plain hook in the water and pulling out a Sardine in a matter of seconds.

hello sanjay,
can you share some information on fishing the gokarna/kudle rock area. am sure you will know that region. I do travel there frequently but have never tried fishing there. will surely try next time around but any previous experiences you may have had will surely help.
