Just a quick note to introduce myself.

I currently work full-time as a recycling advisor and part-time as a freelance journalist for Midland Angler, and press officer and occasional compere for SpeakEasyExperience, the Midland's premiere spoken word event (poetry/ prose etc).

I have been fishing for 25 years and visiting India regularly since 1996.

I have shore and boat fished off the Arabian Sea coast, but the closest I've got to mahseer was feeding them off the bridge at Rishikesh. This sad lack of actual mahseer angling is being cured in February thanks to gentle persuasion (it didn't take much!) from my friend Steve Lockett.

I hope to meet some of you on the bank in the near future.

In the UK my main targets are barbel, chub, pike, zander, carp and tench.

Welcome to the Forum Dickyfisk,

You're at the right place now and I'm sure most of your queires will be answered. Would be interesting to hear about your sea/shore fishing.

Bobby and Marlin,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

My fishing in India has been basic to say the least. I first visited in 1996 and found a chap in Varkala, KE who made me and my mate a pole for rock fishing but we spent more time exploring the backwaters dreaming of a decent spinning or carp rod than we did catching. The few tiddlers we did get were colourful but I have no idea what they were.

My best Indian fish to date was a 3-4 lb spikey monster caught trolling lures off a boat from Candolim, GA down to the Madavi river (? I think I've got the name right). I was told that the spines were poisonous and sure enough as I posed for the picture, the fish flipped and put a spine through the web of my thumb and index finger. My 'first aid' kit only concisted of a two-year old KLM airlines refreshing wipe, so I didn't fancy my chances.

Fortunately the giggling of the crew soon revealed that I'd been well and truly duped and was in no danger! Doh!

Fancy bumping into you on here, Rich. You'll have to get Jim to post next and we'll have the set!

Hopefully see you in November for some Z fishing on the canal.

Just read your second post on this thread.
That fish you're talking about was a catfish, but I've got shots of you holding a big grouper in a boat out of Candolim.
That was one tasty fish. Mind myself and Bobbie had to sit through half a dozen gin and tonics before the fish was served!
