Hi all,

I’m a 48-year biologist presently engaged in public health research with main focus on developing countries. I have lived in West –and East Africa for almost 10 years and am now back in my old neighbourhood in the north-western part of Copenhagen, Denmark. I started fishing with my father when I was 8 years old or so – both freshwater and sea. Lost all my gear and the mood for fishing some years back but have started a couple of years ago to take my own children for fishing trips. For the past 10 years or so, I have been to Tamil Nadu once a year for work and have planned to bring some gear for shore/boat fishing during my next trip early 2010.

Best wishes,
Dan

Howdy! The kids will get you started again. There is something about teaching a child how to fish. I think one of the most rewarding moments is when they get one on. Just the look on their face can make you like your in heaven.

Best of luck.

We started last year with flounder fishing from the shore north of Copenhagen. My oldest daughter (10 yrs) caught her first fish - 3 flounders - on the first trip, and then she was hooked. On her second trip - pirk jigging from boat - she brought back more than 30 herrings. On 28th Dec we will chase the notorious New Year cod from one of the tour boats. Yesterday, I found a fight belt in the right size for her. Though, I wonder how her arms can cope with a 3-5 kg cod. Time will show.....

Best wishes,
Dan

Thanks everybody!

We are now back after a cold but beautiful sunny day at Øresund - the strait that separates the Danish island Zealand from the southern Swedish province of Scania. We succeeded to catch two smaller cods – both below 1 kg and a handful of herrings. Not a great day for fishing, but the sight of the Danish and Swedish coast line under a frozen azure blue sky was amazing! Tomorrow we will make another attempt but this time with a group of hard core cod freaks – and without children…. My daughter will try again later in January.
