Hi Guys,

Iam from Delhi and have fished extensively for coarse fish around Delhi in the early 70s at Badkal,Dhoj & Dumduma lakes all along the Yamuna from above Wazirabad Barrage to below Faridabad.
I have also fished in the 70s at Tajewala and upstream for Mahaseer.
During the end of the 80s and begining of 90s I fished for Trout in Munnar.

Again in the 2000s I returned to the Tirthan for trout fairly regularly.

I sorely miss the coarse fishing around Delhi and look for your suggestions.

Best wishes,
Tilak

Howdy!

I have heard about all these places but they had all died out before I could reach them. The only places I managed to fish were Suraj Kund and Badkal. But they have also gone now.

As for fishing the Yamuna in Delhi that is asking for trouble. It's not a river anymore. Now it is just a sewer. The sad part is all this has happened in the last 12 years. Before that the rains brought loads of Bachuwa, carp and Mulley.
The floods have brought in some fish. I saw some guys hand lining for Tilapia and Mangur at the Kalindi Kunj thokar. You could also check Usmanpur and Wazirabad but i have no info on them.

There are some very nice ponds past Surajkund. These were stocked with carp and the contractor has done his netting so the ones left are up for grabs. I don't know the exact location but there are people on this forum who do. So wait for them to get in touch.

Western Haryana also has some good places. But if you are really looking for action head for the dams at Bhakra and Pong.

The Yamuna is a disaster, I live near it,in civil lines (Near ISBT) I fished some years back above Pong dam near Jwalaji. Is there nothing closer.Pong or Bhakra means at least a 5 day trip.

No possibility of weekend fishing !!!
Is the western Yamuna Canal beyond Sonipat dead too?
Is there no forum which doing something about stocking some of the waters ?

hahahahaha Come with me and we'll do it in 24 hrs. 16hrs driving and 8 hrs of fishing.

On a more serious note. Tiliyar lake near Rohtak is not bad for carp. Pretty crowded with tourists but then which place isn't.
I just got news that Ropar is very good right now. some people from Chandigarh went and got lots. But you have to be wary of the contractors there.

If we plan a trip towards the west I'll PM you.

Otherwise, like I mentioned earlier, there is no place left in the NCR. Sad, real sad.

welcome to the IA, Tilak...

Been a Delhiite for a few months now and have got to know the sad plight of fishing locations here.. like MKen (read M for Master) already said, Tilyar Lake is good for some light fishing action with catches rarely going above the 700gms mark, but then if its your day then you will be pulling them out one after another.. Decent place to go with a bunch of friends looking to unwind after a work week..

Though haven't been there, I heard Bhakra and Pong are well worth the drive...

Tight Lines,
GRC
