Hi every one!
Have been reading this forum for a while now, thought it would be only fair to say hello, as seeing i have learnt allot already from it all.
Being an uber keen fisherman from holland, i grew up in Oman. Being a very keen lurefisherman, i used to catch allot of pike/zander/perch in holland before moving to Oman at the age of 14.
A local dude, called Faisal, took me under his wing. Teaching me every thing from spearfishing to blue water hunting. Spending every day after shool and at the weekend fishing. Trusting me to treat all of his fishing gear and boat as my own.
Over the years i spend there, I gathered a vast knowlage of this wonderfull ocean. Hunting tuna with live bait, spinning for huge GT's and free diving for record groupers. Teachign people as i go allong, and taking tourists out fishing for free, as some times i was out allone and wanted to give people the same experiance i had!
Some memorable times have come from going allong the beach and just shouting... 'any body want to come fishing with me?' always getting some suprised looks from the sunbathers i had woken up, but always tempting and angler or 2.
We caught some serious fish over the years. My personal best (elclosed pic)
Yellow fin Tuna (54kg) Oman 1998
I took a few friends out to the reefs some 10 miles off shore, where we trolled large baits between schools of dolphins and tuna's in a feeding frenzy. Already having landed 3 smaller (20kg) fish, i was reeling in my lure, so it wouldn't get tangled with the other fish that had been hooked, it then smashed the bait right next to the boat. It was like a huge black submarine just shot out of the deep blue water and then tore 100's of meters of line of my reel.
It took over 2 1/2 hours to land. I held on every second of the way.
Not being strong enough to lift the fish, we needed 3 of us to pull on the rope for this pic, even then we still couldn't get it of the ground...
The when i was 18 i was sent to boarding school, this ovbiously being the biggest shock of my live, having to go to the UK...cold wet and grey. BUT most importently NO fish...or not the extreeme conditions i was used to.
Speding every second of the day dreaming of heading back to this wonderfull ocean.
I have now been giving the chance by a great guy to head back, this time to the opposite side of the ocean, GOA.
