Hello anglers

I'm very happy to meet you and I'm glad I found this forum.

A couple of days back I found out from my boss that I will travel to Mumbai from middle of April up to the end of May and since then, I'm searching for fishing possibilities in the area.

I've been fly fishing in Romania for more than 10 years especially for trout and grayling.

I would appreciate your advice regarding fly fishing locations around Mumbai, fly fishing tackle shops , places to get fishing permit or any advice I could use.

Best Regards

Daniel

Daniel, welcome aboard. I strongly suggest that you carry your own fly fishing gear with you to India. Good equipment is hard to come by over here.

Use the search feature on the site to look for more information regarding fishing around Mumbai.

Cheers
Bopanna

Hi Daniel,

I would listen to Bops on tackle, there is only Powai for freshwater fishing and it is mostly for carp like species..

Lot of costal saltwater fishing to be had though...

Bobby

Thats right Listen to Bops no good tackle shops for flyfishing in mumbai. Better carry your tackle. Aslo carry a flyfishing gear for saltwater fishing. Fresh water is hard to find in Mumbai and the only place would be Powai where you would bait fish on Carp and similar fishes.

Wecome Dani_sb,
When you come to India Just give me a call and lets see what we can do for you. One thing for sure, you will not find any location around Mumbai for fly fishing.

Regards,

Ali..

Thank you all for the advices. I will try to carry with me as much gear as possible.

Ali, I will call you as soon as I reach Mumbai. :D

I started to tie up a few saltwater flies - hope they'll do the trick. However, how far would be a fly fishing stream from Mumbai?

Regards

Daniel

There are a few streams just out of Bombay where I am sure you will get something on fly, but it will be pioneering work. The problem with most anglers in Bombay are they do not want to do the hard work that goes into finding new locations, they like to fish there after someone has found a productive spot, then they go there and fish it dry.

So when you find something KEEP IT A SECRET

There are a few small streams near Asangaon, but i am not sure if you will catch any thing there. These are perennial streams and once winter starts they dry up, you may try Nashik tough I am not sure about permits. Get in touch with the local Forest Department officer.

Hi and welcome,
For what it is worth, why not leave your fly fishing equiptment at home, and while you are in India take up surf- fishing, spinning or bait fishing. The equiptment for which is available at the forum shoppe. Fly fishing is mainly done in North India for trout.
Regards
