Hi! Fellow Anglers,

I am Arun. I stumbled accidentally on "Indian Angler" website while surfing in Google for Murrel Fishing!

I did not know there are so many of you around to interact with on this subject.

Well, I have been fishing since my school days. That was way back since 1950! Now I am 65 and still very active.

I started with bait casting with a Hand Line, as a school boy. My favourite spot was Nariman Point in Mumbai. Later on I learnt about Rod & Reel from Magazines like 'Field & Stream' and 'Outdoor Life'.

One of my friends gifted me a Fixed spool reel ( a Small 'MOVADO') when he returned from London after his studies. Then I bought a simple Bamboo rod and one silver spoon from M/S M. Saleh & Co. Mumbai. This spoon was really a light spoon for river fishing. With this tackle I went to Bandra Band Stand for casting for 'Rawas'.

As the spoon was so light, the spoon used to fall a few feet infront of me because of heavy wind. A seasoned local Angler, (Mr. Pascal) from Chimbai who was observing my plight, adviced me that my selection of spoon was wrong for sea fishing and showed me the spoons he was using.

I packed up my tackle and started observing him casting where Rawas was feeding on mullets. He soon caught and landed a good size Rawas.

After this incident, I started going every Sunday to Bandra Band Stand and met senior anglers who educated me further on spinning. Then I joinedtheir group and we fished at Madh, Manori, Behind Governor's Bungalow at Banganga for Rawas and Khajura.

Then we also used to go to Vangani where River Ullhas flows throug out the year. We used to catch Wollys (Walagu Attu).

Lately, I went with Mr. Glen on his boat for bait casting near Colaba light house where a Ship Wreck site holds 'Hickrus' or spotted Grouper. That day we baited our hooks with Bangdas and caught good sized Groupers.

I believe this is very long intro! Since Mr. Santosh suggested that I post my intro, I followed his suggestion.

Let us meet on a fishing trip.

Regards,

Arun

I fished this "Walagu Attu" about 1-1/2 hrs drive away fom Khadakvasla Poona .Dont remember the name of places.Memories come flooding back now. Is this ur area ?
On day one we got about 30 of them and the biggest was about 4 kg's and on day two we spun and spun and the yield was nil.
I still see those beautiful pools. In those days we had only spinners and home made plugs.the Heddon being the most popular look alike.
I wonder if I was there in the place u talk about !
Cheers...ham
