Hi All
Quick intro: I live in bangalore and you can all guess my profession :-)
I've been getting curious about fishing ever since i caught a couple small ones in Kerala using a piece of stick with a bit of line,a hook and a ball of 'atta' for want of anything else to do during the evening on a houseboat. I'd like to understand this sport , equipment required, good spots around bangalore, techniques etc(But First, the VERY BASICS). But i don't really know how to go about it considering i don't know ANYTHING about this yet :-( . Can you guys help me out here?
Thanks.

Hi there Eddie,

Looks like you already now the basics. All you really need know is a tackle that is a bit more complicated and some experience. Read all the old posts on the site, get a bit of info off wikipedia and the net.

Best of luck.

Hi Eddie,

Welcome to the Forum. The best way to pick up really quick is to 'go fish' See if any of the Bangalore guys are heading out and go with them. One fishing trip will be more than a thousand words typed on a forum.

Tight Lines,

Mighty Marlin.

Hi Eddie

Welcome to the forum. If you want to learn about fishing you've come to the right place.

If you go through the posts in the "Bait, Tackle and Tactics" section you will learn most of you need. The Shoppe which is the last section will take care of your equipment needs.

Like MM said, hang around long enough and you will be invited for a group trip where you will learn some more.

Cheers
Bopanna

Thanks guys for those quick tips. Yeah I guess a "fishing trip is worth a thousand words" . So anyone from blr out there? Can someone suggest what stuff i need at a minimum before I head out Also, anyy suggestion where I can pick up these in bangalore and approx cost?. I believe there are a couple of 'fishing camps' near bangalore on Cauvery river like Galibore and Bheemeshwari. (www.junglelodges.com). That way I can try my hand at this and take my family along for a weekend trip too... What say u?

Looks like you haven't read my post in detail, Eddie. There are no shortcuts to fishing.

hi eddie

welcome aboard!

As IA said, this, is the place. you'll get a loads of info and advice here. And going through the posts means you are mostly done as far as the theoratical knowledge is concerned.

Then you have to wet your lines, and let the fish "teach" you. But I am sure after initial lessons fish will redirect you to some of gurus here  .

Hi and welcome. Most of the equiptment you need is avaible with Bops in Bangalore.

One word of advise-unless you can swim, be careful when you are close to water to fish-place your feet with care. Good fishing and enjoy.
