Hello to everyone,

I am from Chennai and I am quite new to Angling. I have been caught by the pelagic bug recently and I still can't figure out how. I had never met an angler before, never been on a fishing trip, did'nt even know what a rod and reel looked like.

Got up one fine morning and decided that I wanted to learn fishing and I didnt know where to begin. So, I did the regular searches on fishing (specifically in & around Chennai) and finally caught Maruthu on another forum. Thanks to him I went on my first fishing trip with him to the harbour. Also ordered my rod and reel with his help and a hundred options to choose from.
Although my mind was set on a Lamiglas Surf & Jetty with a Shimano Baitrunner, rationality prevailed and I finally zeroed in on a spinning setup with a 10' Ugly Stik paired with an Okuma Epixor-65 Reel for starters.
Another friend visiting the US picked up a bag full of lures, line and other tackle and I'm ready to go.

Been to the beach here at Fisherman's Cove a couple of times with another friend whom I stalked for a while before we finally got together and then some trips on my own. I have not yet made a single catch but I guess that will happen eventually.

Along the way I came across this wonderful forum. I have been registered with IA for a while now and been reading and learning until now. Just thought that before I start posting it's only right that I formally introduce myself to everyone.

Credits are in order to the Site Admin - Bopanna - for a forum for Indian Anglers to share their experiences. Also, congrats on the IGFA nomination.
Thanks also to the Moderators.

Credits also to all the regular posters from whose posts I have a learnt quite a bit.

Back to the buzz.....

If anyone's going fishing in Chennai .... please PM me. Although I don't get too much time off work, my mind is set on getting my first catch.
I will be most thankful if anyone can hook me up with a few numbers.

Cheers

Crak

Hey Crak

Nice to have you on board mate!

The combo that you have is a good one very Value For Money (VFM). Use some powerpro braid on the epixor with a long mono shock leader and you will be set for plugging. I wouldn't advise braid for bait fishing though. It's abrasion resistance is pretty bad compared to good mono.

Cheers
Bopanna

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Bops .... will keep that tip in mind .... first I just wanna get comfortable with mono before I move to braid ..... Have a spool of fluorocarbon which might be next .... Is there too much of practical difference between mono and fluoro except for the visibility underwater???

Ken ... saw your post about you coming to Chennai the other weekend .... Did you get to go fishing here???

Cheers

Crak

Hey Crak

The new fluorocarbons are good but I would use them only as a leader not as a replacement for all the line on the reel. Mono or braid should be your main line.

Dear Crak,

Welcome to the forum, there are a couple of people from chennai, also I think there is another angler who runs a trolling service in Chennai. Another good spot I think is Pondicherry for fishing off the rocks.

Regards

Hi Crak,

Welcome to the Site.

There are a lot of nice folks here. I will be back to Chennai this Sunday and we can go fishing :-) .
How is the weather in Chennai? Still raining? Is the river mouth in Kovalam open into the sea?

Cheers,
Maruthu

Dude

That pic is post Tsunami in Cochin. The backwaters were full of sea fish pushed in by the sea. There were a million sardines in every Chinese fishing net. They broke nets .So much so that they were all used as fertilizer for coconut trees by the locals. Oof what a sight!
