Hi guys. i just stumbled across Ia across a couple of days ago. Infact , i have been searching net for quite some time to get connected to angling community. Ok , better late than never.I am in jalandhar in punjab. I am a very keen angler. In fact, yesterday only , we went to the BHakra, and started the season withh a bang by catching a 4 kg + mahaseer. It was a beauty. I will try to post the pictures too. There are about 2,3 families in jalandhar who are into angling. During the season[ august to april] we try going atleast 2 or 3 times a month in around jalandhar. Actually there are 3,4 places at about 1.25 to 2 hours away. harryxs.

Hi Ya there Harry,

Great to you hooked.

I am also a Bhakra fan. Normally once a month. Stay at the Bhakra Hilton (Pawan's place). Get in touch and we can do a trip together.

How high is the water this year? and is it still rising. Have the dam Naina Devi Cycle gangs left?

Hi guys. I am humbled by the welcome!!!! By the way, the water level in Bhakhra is extremly high at this time of year. Although ite crystal clear, yet its diificult to find a proper spot. I think ,as the water is very high, and there is deep slope, all the big ones have gone real deep, so one has to use heavy sinker type lures from the shore. Till now i have done only from the shore. There were still a lot of naina devi pilgrims on the shore [ but at the main road level only]. I had used stern 20 pound braid on shimano sedona 2500 with a rap shad rattler with 2 treble gamaktsu hooks on a im8 graphite rod of emery.
ciao

Hi Indian gypsy,

glad to know that there are people who have heard about uchhi bassi.I had rather call it graveyard of the lures!!! i, along with my other angler- cpkang, must have lost not less than 100 to 125 lures in that place. BUT thats the place, where we go most often and thats the place where we had some terrific encounters with the big ones.. We shall start again going there sometime by end of this month. Moreover, the water is too muddy.Iwill try to post some beautiful pictures, once i get the hang of posting them. I think it sounds too cumbersome.

Harryxs

Hi Boss,
In my write up if u see I mention 2 anglers who release their fish .The compliment is to u as one of them.Do write ur latest experience about this giant who emptied ur entire reel and finally broke the steel flexitroll 4 blade jig on steel wire made by lee davis .If I am right as I got u on the phone she broke the steel wire . Keep going strong and tight lines...as always Ham

Harry,
I know u to be a busy man with your Gov Job .But u know the anglers are just about the best and ur experiences will do a fine job especially when u are a hero . and amongst anglers everyone is just about dying to get away from the usual rut of fishing, sandwiches,a good drink and the journey home .
I would appriciate if u wrote when we first congregated for fishing - our journey across bhakra at about 2 am - and that too in a flimsy inflatable - with 2 ft waves against us- and that too , that u were the only one who said I"ll come whereas others ( Peeta ) booted up and was ready to run for his turn was next . and all the fun we had going across bhakra and coming back when the battery went phat - and that when we neared the sentry across bhakra and I told U" Dont speak " and U being ur self and saying why not and the awakening of the sentry - and thereafter silence and our moving away . and that astonished and bewildered look of the senty (who was sleeping on the jet boat) waking up and sitting in disbelief for he had seen 2 ghosts in a boat and they silently moved away - I bet the next day he would have said "Maine woh bhoot - ko challenge kiya aur woh bhaag gaye "
anyway its all good fun - do write if ur busy schdule permits....CHEERS HAM :D

There are no ghosts there -we have spent a good 25-30 nights there and when there was full / no moon. We camp and sleep on the banks. This May ,towards dusk I had a bad fall with severe injuries and thereafter some people said that the place was haunted and thus the fall. They said they experienced similar falls though less intense . In my case the boulder I stepped on turned - was the ghost under it - No -its all our imagination. Wonder if I missed out on something better that u noticed. Cheers...Ham

On looking back - recollecting - Yes it does get scary especially when there are just 2 of you . Pretty bad on one occasion this summer -whereafter I insured I had the pepper spray / stun gun/weapon next to me . They look like fishermen only working their nets . If they are aliens I wonder whats up .Will talk to those who stay on the water to hear their experiences...Till then...Cheers...Ham
