Guys I am just a bit confused.

Murrel is that Snake Head. Is that the local name that you'll refer to.

Casue in pakistan we refer to snake heads as Sawl.

Yes, Murrel and Snakehead are the same fish.

There are different varieties among the snakehead. The ones we catch on the Cauvery are the red eyed Channa Marulius.

Bopanna

Jefe,

Too much fermented ragi in the water, perhaps? Or maybe the black eyed jobs got into a scrap together?

Cheers

That red eyed murrel has obviously been in the weeds for too long. But it could just be a phase.

In the South, them all be having red eyes...
Next time if any of you are with OMO, you can see then red eyes by doing any of the following:
1) Place your reel on the sand
2) Talk loudly when at the waterside
3) Cast all over the place 'cept in the right place ( albeit this is agaisnt the Law of the Bad Cast Theory  )
4) Don't take any booze along for the trip...

P.S. The Red Eyes might be followed up by an impression of a Size 12 boot on your behind ( The impression is inversely proportionate to the amount and size of fish caught during the trip )
