These channa striata were caught in a tiny little pond about 20 kms from my college in manipal.although theyre not as large as the Murrel, what they lack in size they more than make up for in sheer aggression and willingness to decimate anything that steps onto their turf. This is where the scum frog(enter stage right) comes in waddling along the duckweed completely oblivious to the evil smile forming on the face of the snakehead quietly sneaking up from below.Next is a tiny controlled explosion fuelled by air and water which is by far the single most beautiful sound on earth and all hell breaks loose.the fish is landed photographed released n then you wait for your hands to stop shaking.God how i love this fish

A great description and insight in Murrel fishing. The explosion, as the fish take the surface lure is extremely exciting.

Well done once again and keep on posting.

Ali.

Whilst fishing for predators, seeing them attack the lure on the surface of the water body must be a great sight!

Jeen ,As u rightly sd A murrall or Striata hitting a Top water lure like Frog is indeed "is by far the single most beautiful sound on earth and all hell breaks loose"

but some times its not controllable explosion, have caught striata Hitting frog so hard near to the shore that....it flew it self 3-4 feet to the Land, didn;t have to do anything... :D ,
Another instance had seen it jumping out of the water to hit the frog which got stuck 3 feet above the water on a bush, then found out the reason for that aggression, was guarding it Fry Ball. ,so that deserved to be released.
