I cast my frog at some weeds and instantly a murrell followed it :D thats what i thought but strangely it just kept following and didnt strike staying in crystal clear water just touching the black scum frogs tail with its mouth..
I cast a second time again same behaviour it follwed the frog tantalizingly close but didnt strike i changed my retrive speed and even twiched the frog even then it didnt strike, i took the frog out of water and saw it take a gulp of air..
Third time again the same response it sawm to the frog as if interested but once more didnt strike

I thought of the following possibilities...
1) Murrell was just curious not hungry
2) Was a previously escaped specimen which associated
Scum frog with pain
3) Water temp was not right for feeding??? [smilie=yum.gif]
and the murrell was half asleep [smilie=m-kay.gif]
4) maybe my retrieving was not imitating a frog appropriately

were you at at an elevated angle to see the murrel? if you see ther murrel and it follows the frog... slow it down to a halt... and then suddenly twitch it .. moving it forward a bit.. the murrel thinks the frog is escaping and thus you induce what it called a reaction strike.. all the best..

if one lure doesn't work then try switching to spinners, spoons, live bait n dead bait. There are many other alternatives...

Arish i think you got me wrong, my post was about 1 individaul murrell which followed the frog lure 3 times in sucession but didnt strike, that behaviour intriuged me..... .
After the third attempt it swam off into the weeds out of sight so didnt get any chance to change lure but spinner or spoon wouldnt have worked in the dense weeds anyway (without getting stuck)

Probably it was not hungry.

But the instinct ......murrel could not resist.

thanks omesh :-)

thanks samit, yes , it was a froggy. this time i saw the fish in open water following the frog from a distance, then overtook it and hid in a patch of weeds and waited for the frog to pass over it . the murrel took the frog through the weeds..

thanks jeen, this place is a few kilometers upstream of the city where the water is clear and unpolluted. once the river passes through the city it is nothing but sewage. the barrage is downstream of the city and you cant stand there because of the foul stench. you are right , there are huge murrels here. as for the weather, its getting hotter by the hour.

thanks scott, keep on inspiring us.. the pleasure is all mine :-)

thanks manish :D

[quote="dr aamir bhavnagri"]here are the pics. the carps had a black spot on its tailImage

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

That isn't a Carnatic Carp aka Barbodes carnaticus as those have a high dorsal profile and lack the black spot at the base of the caudal or tail.

This is Puntius sarana subnasutus

you are right channabarca, this is'nt carnatic carp but a type of carp called black spot. they take spinners freely.
