First off : I'm Varun from Hyderabad. I have to confess that i've been on Indian Angler for about a year now ..
and I must say that I have learnt a "lot" about Angling from here and my pops (who also is a very keen angler). I've been a silent observer to every conversation and also keenly taking into mind all the tricks of this trade. I also want to thank Bops for this wonderful forum and also for the gear!
..its a real help for amature fisherman like me!.
The main story : I'm a die hard fan of Murrel Fishing and am on the hunt to catch me a real Big one
. During one such recent trip away from hyderabad, My dad, couple of our friends and myself started off early morning at 04:00 and reached the spot around 08:00 AM.. The road leading to the lake was a very rocky terrian..which only a 4x4 can handel, Offcourse the terrain was not a hassle for the Tata Safari. After negotiating a tough uphill climb we parked our car and started assembling our tackle. Post that, We had to trek down a steep hill which finally got us to the lake.
We all spread out and started casting without wasting much time.. we casted n casted n casted.. but not a single bite!.. by now the time was nearing the 11:30 mark and we were all exhasuted because the sun was beating down on us crazy..We decided to take some rest .. we camped near a big tree and had some snacks and slept for a while..I could not manage to get sleep as I was all the time thinking what went wrong and why there was not a single bite!.
Now, the time was around the 12:45 and I knew that if it gets any later I wouldnt stand a chance of getting anything. Dad and I picked up our gear and decided to check out a new spot in the same lake, It was about 1 1/2 Km trek. I reached the spot and I could see that the water was very deep.. I casted out on my left and stared reeling in.. as my spinner was nearing the bank .. I felt a hit, at first I thought I hit a rock. I was wrong, I felt a pull and next thing you know I landed a descent 2Kg Murrel. I was very excited now!! .. leaving that spot, I moved on a bit futher and casted again to my far left, this time I reeled in very very slow ..I could feel the spinners vibes on my hand while I was spinning. Druing my retrive , I felt a sound it was a very rapid hit..next thing you know my reel started screaming....I called out to my dad to bring the landing net and told hime that I feel it was a big one..I started reeling in slowly .. as I bought it closer to the bank what a sight!, it was a Huge murrel, it was just sawying like a Snake! . It started perfoming some crazy Acrobats to de-hook itself.. i Just kept the line tight and I could see that it was well hooked. After about 7minutes I was able to bring into the landing net .. We then Weighed and it recorded "5.6 KG". I was thrilled!..it was my first bigge!.. and I know the fact that there are many in this forum who caught way bigger one than this. But, as an amature to start off with this size!,its truly a thrilling experince!.. We then packed up and started off home, we had lot to speake about on our way back!.
My search for the real big one still continues. Till I get my next big one, my thanks to all and wish you all Tight lines.
