hi guys,

it was terribly cold here in ahmedabad since the last two weeks and all fishing had come to a standstill. yesterday however the temprature rose and the weather became warm. i grabbed the opportunity and went fishing to the spot where jeen and rahul caught thier murrels a few months back. i was using mepps no-4 gold spinner. on my second cast the spinner came to a juddering halt followed by a vicious head shake. first the fish went down into the weeds and sulked there. after a while it made a dash to the surface and 'tailwalked'. many times during the fight it repeated this stunt to free itself. i had never imagined a murrel could fight like that. after what seemed an eternity it gave in and surendered. i landed it carefully with my landing net. the fish was hooked deep in the throat and my artery forceps wasnt long enough to remove it, besides its mouth was tightly shut. so it was decided to keep it for the pot.

i brought it home and put it in my son's swimingpool. there i opened its mouth with an insrument and removed the hook with a long needle holder. by next morning it was fully revived but i did'nt have the heart to kill it so i wrapped it carefully in a wet cloth and made the 30 km trip to the spot and released it; and what do you know releasing it was no less satisfying than catching it. THANK YOU jeen for sharing the location with me.

Hey Doc.

Nice fish and a very noble gesture to drive 30 K.m. to release the fish.

Keep it up.

Regards,

Ali.

Hi Doc,

Nice fish. Good job on the release. How is the water level in the canals? The weather must be great this time of the year. Will call you when in Ahmedabad next.

thank you jeen, the water is a bit high at this time. the water works guys open the sluice gates around 8 in the morning after which there is a lot of current in the canal. the first time i went to this place was very early in the morning while it was still dark and just before sunrise the water was literally boiling with fish. that time i caught murrel ranging from 1 to 3 lbs on almost every cast. i tried frogs but caught all my murrel on mepps. i have not tried the sub canal yet. how is the fishing there?

regards,

aamir.

Congratulations on the catch & congratulations on the release Doc.

Not many would go the distance to release the fish in your situation.
A job indeed well done.

Amir, it's a lovely catch, congratulations. I'm really glad you chose to release the fish. Murral over 3 kilos start breeding and are responsible for the continuation of the species. It is really important to release trophy sized murral back in the water they came from.

Cheers
Bops
