I'm in India right now, yesterday i went to a pond wich is famous for snakehead fishing and i used a frog popper but no snakehead hooked :( I've just seen Gachuas around here and no Striatas or Marulius =/ .
The people here tells me that snakeheads only swims at thew bottom of the pond, but is it true?
I'm really confused and need help! I thought that snakeheads could be caught near the surface of the ponds...

What should i do to catch this fish? When does it come to the watersurface? And what kind of bait should i use except frogs? Does Earthworms work?

Aircut, try ground baiting around a liily pad/reed bank, or trees overhanging the water.use chicken liver or mince meat mixed with river mud or plain water and dough to give that nice cloud of blood in the water. Then you can dead bait with a 3/0 -4/0 hook and some more meaty stuff on it.Where in india did you fish?

Viper is spot on live bait is the best for Snake heads.

Mepps spinners also give good results. When using live bait I suggest cast and step back and dont make alot of movement. Snake heads usually shy away from to much movement at the surface in Ponds

Aircut not sure if this technique will work over there but here in Florida
this is what I do.
I use either Zoom Horny Toads or Strike King Ragetail Toad.
First if I am fishing from the shore I will make a cast a before I walk up
as here the snakeheads lay up close to the bank. Then I make casts
parallel to the bank and at a 45 degree angle as I walk. This seem to
be a productive method.
It's not uncommon for me to catch 6-12 snakeheads in a day.

Scott

P.S. I have never used live bait here for snakeheads as lures seems
to be more effective at covering more water.

They have drop the kill order on them and in Florida, they never did any
eradication on them. They only tracked them. Only in D.C. will the media
make a mountian out of a mole hill. They were found in 2000 here and it
only made it into the local papers. Plus you have to know that the south
Florida canals have so many exotics that one more just barely raised
an eyebrow, except for the "they'll eat all the bass" crowd. Most people
think that all snakeheads are the Argus, not knowing that our species
is totally different.

P.S. I will post some pictures later.

Hey Aircut,
All time fav in Cauvery is the scum frog-in pumpkin or green. Will draw a strike every time.Get yourself a couple.I can give you a genuine, been-in-the-hook-up-of -many-murral, scum frog...certified,voodoed and castrated many atimes by Murral ;)
Failing all else, the Mepps no 4 is also a sure strike lure
