guyz i'm gonna try my luck for catfishes
in a feeder river of ganges...in kolkata
got some infos from the locals
like they use live prawns/oyster/worms for them
river is about 150 ft wide and water is steep deep for about 40 ft
slow current...catfishes' size approx. 10 kgm/20 lbs
any suggestion regarding baits/spinners/lures and tackles shall be appriciated

regards
saiki

Use fresh chicken liver and worms. That's all you need.

Add chicken gut to the menu.

ground bait with a lot of tinned dogfood (in oil). Stab the tins a million times... throw them in.... go have a beer or two... come back and start fishing.

Hi Saiki,

For catfish u can also use small fish that r available in ur market , wat u v to do is cut the head & take out the bone the nite before u go fishing. take the fish add some " Hing " to it before storing it up in a airtight contaner. & for god's sake dont open the container the next day at home. If u use big hooks add 2 to 3 fish in the hook as bait, in small 1 will do. Wat this bait will do is attract small fish becose of the sent , It will in turn attract the big fishes................that's the way i catch catfish....& its works

bye
Take care & GR8 fishing
Dev

Doc buy yourself a carp or a rohu about 1 kg, remove the scales and with a sharp knife cut thin long strips from head to tail off the fish.
Thread these strips onto a 2/0 - 4/0 hook in a nice ball and cast out with enough weight to hold bottom.
Sure action.

Just to add one more option.

Buy a fish called Bata (bongs love it). Wrap it in newspaper and keep it under the hood of your car. Drive for a few hours. this will make the Bata nice and gamey (you'll smell it when it is ready).

Scrap off the meat and put it on your hooks. This magic masala works great for bachwa and mulley.

Use the leftover as ground bait. That is mix it well with mud (a real dirty and smelly job) and lob balls into the swim. It like ringing the dinner bell in a boarding school.

The smellier the better. Just remember to carry a lot of soap with you. And don't shake hands with anyone.

Saiki, you should smell my clothes after a day trip with the pumphouse gang-I have everything from chicken;liver to guts to hing to rotten banana to rum on ground bait...damn , my clothes get steamed and fumigated.
I only have 1 set of fishing clothes, kept washed and in a separate bag with my fishing gear.Part superstition and part hygeine.Sure, most things meaty & smelly will do.Pun intended. :)What comes up on gav's side is caveat emptor   just keep on trying
Best
Axx
