Hi, i am a new member of the indian angler.

i have founded a dam near my city chandigarh, naming jainti dam. it is not very big, it is feeded by the rainwater of the hills. i have discovered that it contain carp. so i tried to fish it with simple takle, and flour balls as bait.
i could only catch only some very small carp.

My quesion is that can i catch bigger carps? what kind of bait should i use? and, how can i identify that the dam contain other species of fish or not?

I understand that you have located a Dam near Chandigarh by the name and it is fed by mountain streams. You could continue with your bait fishing and switch between wheat dough and earthworms as bait. Do not forget to ask the locals about the fish. They would have some useful info for sure.

If you have the right tackle and time Bhakra Dam is not too far away.

Hi,

Problem with Chandi is that there is a very large immigrant population putting pressure on the waters... suggest you hit Bhakra... its 2 hrs from Chandi and has BRILLIANT fishing there through the year.

Mirror carp at Bhakra is runing upto 10 kgs in weight easy, and can be taken on atta and earthworms.

There is also crazy mahseer to be had.

Cheers,

Hi there,

If you are from Chandigarh, first you should fish Sukhna Lake. There is a dedicated bunch of anglers, fishing Sukhna regularly. Make friends with them and you will learn lot of tricks.

Regards,

Ali. :P

Yes, i know that first i should fish in sukhna lake. but i tried there many times
with no success:( . also, i think fishing is prohibited there, so it is not easy to hide the fishing tackles and get on a boat to fish.
