Well I will try to catch this cool fish this summer in India too.
So what kind of bait should I use?
Should i fish at the bottom of the pond or just let the bait float as normally?

And the last question..What do you guys call this fish in India?

the name varies from place to place, fish at the bottom, smelly bait, they will eat almost anything, dough, earthworms, shreds of meat from last nights chicken curry :D
be careful while you handle them, some of them are more dastardly than the others, as long as you don't let them sting you, you'll be safe, use a pair of pliers to extract the hook, they tend to swallow em real hard, if your up to it, you can try holding it with your bare hands, the fishes belly should rest on your palm, with your index and ring fingers behind its lateral fins (with a nice old spines in em), this way it cant use the lateral fins, and the dorsal fin (yea, again with a spine) is way outta the way.
if you do get a hit, clean the wound with an antiseptic ASAP! the bacteria that thrives on them spines are malicious!
happy fishing...
