Great PICS Owen.

Carp grow quite big here in Pakistan as well. But the really big ones are seldom caught on Rod.

Common carp and Kalta( Theila as its locally called) are the bigger ones caught.

:o

30-45 Kg Specimens have been netted from Mangla in the past :?

A caught a 15 Kg one from Mangla last winter.

Beautiful Common Shapan.
Don't usually see them that size in South India, the big ones are usually Rohu and Grass carp with the occassional big Catla.
I have seen one huge Catla in our Wasi lake. It has to be over 50lbs, never touches the bait though

In heavily fished waters, giant carps are generally survivors of one or more hookups. I remember I hooked a couple of giant grass carps in a lake a year and a half back but both broke out. They were in the range of 15-20 kg. I was a regular visitor to that lake and for next one year, i saw those giants many a times but they wont take any thing. They have grown even bigger and can be easily spotted early morining.
So keep trying and keep praying.
Regards

We have Grasscarps in Germany as well.
HereĀ“s a picture of a 18,5 kg form this year.
We feed them quite heavily 20 kg + maize per day.
They only eat in summertimes (winters autmn.. ist quite cold in Germany)
In summertimes they eat sometime as double as much as their own weight.
They are as well very agressiv if they feed on a spot the attack common carps. So you are only going to catch grass carps if you feed heavily with maize.
Rig is a standart bolt rig combined with a 10 cm poped up maize on a line aigner :-)
I am in february in Dehli, is there somewhere a nice lake to fish succesful on carp?

Nice fishes there....

Shaphan, if you want to target a really big catla, use thin line and small hooks but how you are going to land them is another matter. Man this is the paradox of landing big Catla..

Regards,

Ali..
