HI there
I recieved a post about the dynamiting of waters in India, does this go on a lot? As a filmmaker can anybody throw some more light on this subject
for me so that I can research this subject in the possibility of making a film about it, as a passionate wildlife enthusiast I have posted a film about natures revenge on a poacher on the image forum so please take a look, but more important is the feedback from the dynamiting any assistance would be most welcome. so please get in touch.

Gary

Dear Gary,

There are three cruel methods which are common practise here are is Dynamiting, Poisoning and the other Electrocution. All these methods are probably done every day throughout India and its a menace killing everything in that range.

Its quite common in the Cauvery River stretch.

Derek Dsouza

Hi there, v prashant
if possible would like to bring some attention to the matter, and research needed, plus raising some cash to make the film as I am an indiependant.

Thanks.

Hi Gary,

If you need live footage, land up in Saryu Valley anytime after March.
This is the time dynamiters are in action as the waters are low and the fish on the move to their breeding grounds.

Cheers but not cheers,
Vedan

dynamiting is rampant in the mountains... road crews have access to dynamite to clear landslides and stuff, and they have a very simple method of conserving the dynamite they use...
its a pretty simple procedure...

1) a sliver off the stick in a glass bottle...
2) Add detonator in the form of a magnesium strip
3) light and throw in water
4) crew stands downstream to catch fish pulp floating down...

its a sad state of affairs... the big ones get stunned and go belly up, while the small fish and fish fry get converted to fish paste...

the practice is as rampant in the north as it is in the north east... basically everywhere there is a combination of landslides and fish...

the Border Roads Organisation does not do much cause they really could not give 2 hoots as long as the roads get cleared... Sadly, in India, fish happen to be at the bottom of the food chain!!! no one gives a rats ass about the water either!!!

Poisoning with pesticide is more common in agricultural areas... people here are dumb enough to eat the fish after that...

Electrocution on the other hand is employed mainly by the guys working at dams, sluice gates & pump houses... for them electicity is free and omni present, and all they have to do is stick a wire into the water!!!

Last time is saw a guy stick dynamite into the water, me and my dad had a good time beating the crap out of him before he was handed over to the cops... the cops turned a blind eye, but at least we thrashed the guy!!!

God help the rivers, lakes, fish and the anglers here!!!

May I suggest to all you folks, AFTER you been pissed off and used up your F's and asterisks, care to do something concrete about it?
Anglers Association ,India-sounds good? if no one feels their ego is threatened , or syntax is better ,lets start a NGO for starters? July?
lets see folks put their money where their mouth is-get up off your hands and lets have your support, instead of all F**t and no S**t,
there 'I've used up my asterrisk quota for the next 6 months ;)
Best
Axx

Doc you have a point.

Let's the pump house gang start the show. And get this thing of the ground. I believe we are meeting net weekend for more of the madness. We should use the driving time to figure out the details.

The Ganga Gang.....

Asif, Anglers Association of India is a great idea & this should not be limited to state or any city. Numbers can make difference.

Hi,

The NGO idea is a good one.

"The Federation of Indian Anglers" would be a nice name.

Let's get this started.

Anybody know how to start a NGO ?

tight lines

FBI sounds good !!!

“Fishing B….. Incorporated “

Imagine walking up to those poachers and saying…

Hum FBI say hain … Upne haath upar karo aur….etc…

They’ve seen enough hindi movies and will get the message.

But jokes aside…this is a good initiative…Lets do it !!!

Jude

hi prashant,

I think it would be unwise to get the media or the politicians involved at this stage. We are working towards finalising things on paper, and only after that should the guns start blazing.

The last time the media and TN Seshan got ivolved with the angling scene, they put a blanket ban on angling in Uttranchal, and it took a lot to get it lifted!

So for the time being, the best thing to do is sit tight for the next few weeks.

Cheers,

Yes no cops, politicians and news people right now.

First we have to get organized or the entire thing will go out of our hands.

Also no violence please. Except for father son teams.

Peace, love and harmony.

walk down to any commercial village near a river.

Talk to the locals, they will provide you with ample information and also demonstrate the bombing.

Dynamite and other explosives ae available for as cheap as Rs.5.00.

The last time I was on a river I saw school kids using crackers (sutli bomb) 6 of these tided togheter. put into a jam bottle and lit. It still does the trick.

None of them realise that they are wiping off entire schools of native fish.

RulerofSun.

heard stories of bleaching powder ...

pour it in and wait further downstream - haul them all in ...

a trick done in the streams up north though luckily on the decline.

heard the hammer trick from some villagers, just bash it on the rocky sections and see some fish turn turtle ... another himalayan village trick

lots of strange ways to catch fish ...
