Got this from the BBC Wildlife magazine. Something I've always been made to feel by old shikaris about big fish, big eggs, big babies. No wonder the 'Great Mahseer' is on it's way to extinction, thanks to those responsible for their removal...

Thanks mate. Another real reason (not the emotional or passionate type) for catch and release. If you do a quick google you'll find that the average size of cod, salmon, crabs, lobsters and prawns has fallen consistently. Not the farmed type of course.

The only fish probably to really recover from being over fished is the Striper. And this despite the fact that the river Hudson continues to be one of the most polluted in the world. But it to will never get back to the schools found in the early 1900s.
