Post subject:  Dead Groupers in Goa and north of Goa

hey guys .. just had an update that quite a few LARGE grouper have been washed ashore dead in Goa at Morjim and Shapora . Checked at VJdurg and they had 2 large grouper in excess of 30 kgs that was still a bit alive when they found it . They chopped it up and sent it to the market . The Grouper at Shapora had a sea eagle dead beside the grouper . Must have eaten a bit of the grouper . Strangely only grouper are being found dead .. Any guys fishing this area over the next few days .... stay away from Grouper fillet .

That sounds very worrying.
All the more reason for establishing an NGO to deal with those kinds of issues. Surely someone should be trying to find out what has happened to them. Especially if the eagle died as a result of eating the grouper.

It is worrying Fred, but I guess it being India, we will just have to wait it out...especially since it is the sea..

this thing happens every year during monsoon only groupers get effected this year to many groupers half alive found floating at dona paula jetty this has been going on for decades as per wat info i gathered from fisherman who fished for more than 40+ years, they say it bcoz this groupers eat a lot and get bloated , some say its due to massive depletion of oxygen ( this is not true as only groupers start floating ) 3rd theory is since the sea is very rough they get banged against the rocks and stuff

but all dead and half alive groupers are always bloated

we have to get some scientific answers to it, it effects groupers of diffrent size and weight some young some very old, that the reason why groupers in goa dont grow big size like the ones in US, we need some researchers to help find a answer.
