I have realised that due to my frequent travelling, i cant take along some of my good two piece rods. I am using a couple of telescopic rods but they at times fall short of power. I want to buy a travelling rod which is 30 inch or less but still powerful enough to play 10-15 kg mahseer. Are there any glaring disadvantages of a travel rod?? Have consulted many sites, likes of Shimano Exege 9 ft, 6 piece seem to be a good option. Can anyone guide me out of his personal experience which is the best rod in the same price range. Would appreciate a feed back.

Regard

Sualeh

Have a look at the Quantum three piece rod in the link below. I have it and it's really good. Comes with a super case as well.

Sualeh, Got myself one of these last week. 32" hard tube, I used it with a shimano 8000 baitrunner.
Good casting, handles upto 4 Oz lureweight.

Good Luck

Hi all
Please give your views on the efficiency of 4 to 6 piece travel rods. I understand the efficiency of a two piece but are there any glaring disadvantages in casting, playing and landing the big fish, say from 15-20 kgs. Would appreciate your views on this.
Any one who has used Shimano Beastmaster stc ax (6 piece), Shimano Exage stc (6 piece), Shimano Speedmaster (5 piece), all 2.4/2.7 meters??
Would appreciate if you share your experience.
Regards
Sualeh

Sualeh, if you can afford it, the Albright travel rod is the best. I should be getting one soon. Have a look at the link below.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... &noImage=0

For a 7 foot rod I would not go higher than three pieces, for a longer rod 4 pieces. More than that too many things can go wrong.

Hi Hawkeye
Went through the threads. Thanks a lot mate. Stand educated on the subject. However, could not find Ron Emersons travel rods on Fosters of Birmingham's site.

Hi Hamdhingra
Liked the advise and this is one hell of a rod, [smilie=gt_grinz-browwiggle.gif] however, there is one small problem. If my wife comes to know that i have spent US $ 350 (equivalent to Pak Rs 21000) than i may have to spend rest of my life with the rod alone. [smilie=cwl.gif] She is already very critical of the 10 rods that already possess.

Hi Makarand

8 ft is perfect. Should be two piece-but 3 as a travel rod is OK.
I would never go above 8ft 6 inches if I had to select a new rod. I would prefer to go less on length and make it 7 ft or preferably 7 ft 6 inch.
Longer rods are better –longer casts –reach out more in water. But as the fish comes closer it becomes difficult to land/handle it .IGFA records come only on U have to hook and land it your self –no 2nd person.
I consider 8 ft, graphite composite,12-25 lb line,1/4 – 1 oz, med-hvy rod,action fast as the best for mahseer.Hope this helps…Ham
