Hi
I am new to angling. Would be angling in north India so mostly mahseer and sometime trout.can anyone tell me how is Abu Garcia cardinal bruiser combo or should I go for shimano fx combo ????? Is there any shop in Chandigarh or Delhi where one can pick up rods from?

I have looked up both combos on the internet and personally feel that these are not the right gear for what you have in mind - they are cheap and may not stand up to heavy fishing (mahseer).

My suggestion is:

. separate rod and reel for trout (perhaps the shimano fx combo in its lighter weights)

.a heavier rod (Ugly Stik) /reel for mahseer.

This will cost you more initially but the equipment will last much longer.

Being originally from Chandigarh, I do not know of any angling shops in that city
but Delhi should have a few.

Hope this gives you a start.

Chandigarh & Delhi would have no shops. You have to look elsewhere. PM Bops for advice.

If you have a friend or relative who visits India then the choice broadens considerably.

Hey Zorawar,

Else keep a close watch on gear sales here - A cabela's salt stikr 50 size with a 8 feet rod Silstar, eagle claw, king cat.
If u coming in from US / Auz then might as well get some gear from there

get a slow fibreglass rod for the trout like the daiwa crossfire. it casts small lures pretty far and is sensitive enough. i have also taken mulley with it up to 2 kgs. for mahseer u need something like the ugly stik lite salmon steel head. buy adequate gear once and enjoy it , rather than upgarding every so often. also spend money on the reel and with the change pick up the rod, as it is the heart of your setup. i love my slammer and it changed salty fishing for me.

The tools are irrelevant... the equation is between the angler and the fish! Hand lines and single hooks do as much damage as fancy gear! :D
