Hi,

I know there is an old post on the forum regarding customs duties on importing fishing equipment at http://www.indianangler.com/viewtopic.p ... ght=import.

As per the updated Customs Tariff 2009-2010, the import duty is mentioned at 10% as per this link http://www.cbec.gov.in/customs/cst-0910/chap-95.pdf

So I want to know if you import a fishing rod or some other item from Cabelas, would the current duty of only 10% stand or will be be 28% as per the original post? What about passing bucks under the table? I dont think our custom officers will waste such a golden opportunity of fleecing the aam aadmi.

Waiting to hear everyone's valuable inputs....

Found another link which says duties for inflatables has been exempt..though it does not say anything about fishing equipments.
http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news ... 10/485658/

" Customs duty on inflatable rafts, snow-skis, water skis, surf-boats, sail-boards and other water sports equipment to be fully exempted. "

My new inflatable was mentioned as a sailing vessel and so I paid 7600/- as customs duty.

Answered mine too.... I get a rod and reel combo, its 4k for beginner, plus ahipping 1.5k makes it 5.5k, and then customs and octroi since i'm in Pune. another 3-4 k makes it 8.5k-9.5k, which is almost double the thing itself.
Hmmmmm, I think its best to contact my relatives abroad and have them ship it to my place straight. I hope thtat clears half of this.
