Hi,

Sorry folks - listed this same message in tackle and tips also for being a muppet!
so here it goes again...

Currently on the verge of buying a Abu Garcia Hellbender 1302 Fixed Spool (13ft) with Abu Garcia Cardinal 177swi combo from UK.

Is this a good option for beach/pier fishing?

Cheers

Hi Ram,

I was going through the review and it seemed pretty good. I don't know how well it would perform if you are also planning to fish using lures, being a 13 feet rod i assume it will be heavier.

Thanks. I will be bringing this along as long as customs don't make a hullabaloo about this, but I think B'lore chaps are mostly ok.
What tension do you reckon? 20lb + 80lb leader? I don't even know what kinda fish I'm targeting here (Beach/pier).
Thanks
Ram

In kerala, we would mainly be targeting (Big ones)Sharks, sting ray, guitar fish from the surf. Small ones would be whiting croaker fish & catfish. if we are fishing from the pier or a river mouth we would be targeting threadfin salmon, Mangrove Jack, GT, Barramundi, barracuda, grouper, rock cod, breams, sharks and sting ray again.

25lb mono or 30lb braid and 50lb leader would be good enough.

How much would the rod alone cost you?

It was a combo deal.
It cost me £134 for both. Have I been taken for a ride?

That looks like an awesome place... There is one coming up in Vadakara as well... Lets cross our fingers that they dont use it to dock the boats coz once they do that every fish in the area will taste of diesel.

They have a small port for that I reckon. So touchwood, that won't happen. Dolphins are a regular visitor near this pier. I'm not sure if it's coz of the fish or something else.
