Hi All,

I was going through the internet and just saw few of the sites that talks about the advantages of circle hooks over the usual straight hooks.

However everyone of this site also was like a selling source of the circle hooks so not sure how much can trust their reports. Has anyone used the circle hooks and how does this fare over the straight hooks. Also could any one advice where I can get the circle hooks in India.

Cheers,

Chris

As per my knowledge. the only advantage of circle hook over straight one is the ability to withstand more tension.

Probability of hook turning straight is slightly higher for straight hooks compared to circle hooks.

Hi there,

This hook was designed to avoid hooking the fish deep inside its throat.

I am a fan of circular hooks. The design aspect of these hooks is such that the fish will only be hooked on the lip side and in case you want to release it, it will be very easy to de-hook the fish with minimal damage.

If you see a circular hook, it is difficult to believe that this hook will be effective in proper hook ups but believe me, the hook up percentage (Specially self hooking ) is much higher than the conventional hooks.

I will recommend that you try these hooks, specially for beach fishing.

Regards,

Ali..

Ali what size and make of circle hooks do you recommend for beach fishing? I have tried eagle claw but not as primary hooks they were used for holding the bait at the nose. Never expected/had any hook ups on that one.

Thanks - DeZZ

I use 3 x VMC size 3/0 and 4/0 circle hooks for my beach fishing rigs.. I find 3/0 ones are perfect for the fish we catch here.

Order from cabelas and opt for the $ 20 shipping expenses it would come out cheap.

I believe this type of hook is extensively used in bengal so If you have a friend based in Kolkatta , ask him to do a favour by sending some of them.

No Prakash...you do not get Circle hooks anywhere in Kolkata. I am from kolkata myself and searched a lot for the circle hooks in all the fishing stores in kolkata but never got even one.
