Hi,

I am in California for a month. Yesterday I went Wal-Mart to buy a line, got 2 options Mono 30lb cost $3 and 10lb braided $20.

Can experts suggest which one is good for casual fishing (as Bangalore have very strict options) or I can go for Popeil Pocket Fisherman?

Thanks
Arvind

Braid or mono is really a matter of personal choice.

If it is casual fishing, I would go in with 15lb mono as it is cheaper.

Option 1: Get a bigger suitcase.

Option 2: Cathay will allow, but you will have to pay for oversized baggage.

Option 3: Courrier it home. Some shops will ship it to you for a price, check with them.

Option 4: Get a combo which is a 2pc rod with max rod length @ 6' to 6'6".

Option 5: Get a travel rod (3 or 4pc) & buy a good reel seperately.

Option 6: Take up cooking or knitting or something of that sort.

If you are just into 'casual' fishing (whatever that might be) look at a good quality telescopic. I have seen one made by Browning which was better than most two piece rods.

Ken is right...

Cathay do not charge extra for OS bagage I carry cases all over. If you go in for a 2 piece then you need to buy PVC pipe to pack it into to check in.

Got a new Shimano Baitrunner 4500 for Christmas and was thinking about putting braided line on it. I will probably use it for casting 80 of the time.

Anyone have experience or other information I should consider?

Walterharris,

This is a beautiful reel..I have the 3500, 4500 and the 6500 model.

The main purpose of the Baitrunner is really for baitfishing (see the separate drag at the rear of the reel) . However, nothing stops you for using it for spinning as well.
