has anyone used this reel, is there a bail snapping problem on this reel while casting

I have about 5 to 6 of my fellow anglers using Sargus 6000 and I use 8000 series. I have no problem using them and they almost abuse the reel.

ok thanks, i got a brand new sargus from USA ( made in china though ) will start using it soon

I'v been using pen srg 6000 without any issues. its smooth like butter and strong too

the bail arm snapping seems to be a problem in the penn spinfisher series (have a couple of them in diff sizes and have experienced the problem more than once)

So over time i was wondering what exactly is going wrong and below are my findings (and solution)

1. Never keep the bail arm totally parallel to the rod while casting - this is the one position where it snaps the most. I ran some simulations and found the root of the problem with the small knob at the mount. so keep it sliglty to the right of the rod, if u use left hand retreive.

2. There seems to be some corelation between the bail arm snap and the casting method. for me usually overhead cast causes snap and side ways cast does not.

3. Lastly check the bail arm screw if it is tight enough

now as i said these are for spinfisher. i have not used the sargus but if the outer construction is similar then the problem might be the same

Hi... Iam using Penn sargus 6000 for pier and surf casting and also using Battle 8000...i didnt have any issues with the reel and also my buddy angler Calvin is using sargus 6000 for the past 3 years for all type of fishing. Never had any issues with it .


Penn Battle and sargus are made in China and also some of the Shimano brand reels are also made in China.

If the cast is made smoothly without too much vibration in the rod, the problem will not occur.
