Dear Anglers,

I am a beginner and I am about to buy my first fishing tackle.I will mostly be doing surf fishing from beach and sometimes from pier/jetty. I will mostly be using live bait but i will be using few lures as well.

I am tilted to buy Ugly Stik (10 ft) + Okuma Avenger ABF65.

I will be going to Cabelas store near me and try these fishing rods and see which one fits the best.

After going through quite a few forums about which one to go for I have narrowed down to following fishing rods

Rods:
Shakespeare Two-Piece Ugly Stik Bigwater Spinning Rod (10ft)
Daiwa Sealine Surf Spinning Rod (10-Feet)
Tsunami Trophy Series (9ft)
Tica Surf Spinning Rods (9ft)
Penn Spinfisher

Reels:
Okuma Avenger ABF65
Cabela's Salt Striker Spinning Reels
Daiwa Black Gold
Penn Spinfisher SS
Shimano Spheros FB

Lures:
Rapala Original Floater
Rapala Saltwater Skitter Pop
Halco spoons
Rapala X-Rap "Saltwater 10/14"
Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow Sinking Lures

Any inputs will be highly appreciated. My budget is around 150-200$. Do i go for a cheap rod and buy a bit expensive reel? My primary aim is to catch different variety of fishes apart from croakers and catfish.

Here are few more questions they might be silly..apologizes for that.

Can i use lures with 10ft surf rod? Do i need to buy another 7ft-8ft rod for that? The reason being lures i see are normally under 1 oz and casting lure weight for these 9-10ft surf rods start from 1oz onwards.

How do i bring this 10ft fishing rod to India from US? All these surf rods come in 2 pieces. Shall i ship it directly to India once i buy or shall i trust the airlines transport? I will be calling airlines to see my options.

Does anyone know what Rod Cover should i buy to cover these surf rods while travelling?

Thanks in Advance.
